Everyone has had a grumble and groan, now it is time to be realistic. The main culprit for yesterday was the way the summer worked out. Tony Fernandes wasnât in charge early enough. Warnock had to bring in players that he probably would not have bothered with if the finance had been in place. When it arrived it was a mad scramble to try to improve the team from the players that were still available. The euphoria from the takeover, which lifted the players as well as us, has now quietened down and we are looking at a long, hard slog. Due to injuries and suspension we went into this game without Gabbidon, Dyer, Traore and Connolly at the back, resulting Young playing out of position, Orr playing his first match with the new defence and Hall being on the field. Hall is more prone than probably anyone else in this division to having a bad game and Ferdinand had always had concentration lapses. Would Gorkss and Hill have been any better? We probably wouldnât have shipped 6 goals, but we would still have lost. There are both gritty, determined fighters, but neither have the pace for this level, they would have been by-passed by Fulham quite easily. We should be eternally grateful for their efforts last season, but they would not have coped this season. If nothing else, this game showed how important Derry is to the team. He had a bad day, and we really suffered. It shows what a good job he has been doing protecting the defence. Neither Barton nor Faurlin were able to step up when needed. There is no way that I would consider dropping Derry. He has been our best player this season and he will fight and fight and fight for the cause. Up front, Bothroyd needs a game or two in the reserves to find his goal scoring touch. Maybe if we play DJ instead we can stop thumping the ball up in the air. With the players weâve got we need to be playing on the ground. The international break will give Warnock a chance to sort things out. Remember some of these players have only played 4 games together, others only 3 more than that. It takes time. Finally, those of you that went to the game should be proud of yourselves. You put the Fulham supporters to shame, singing from start to end. I hope that those of us who join you for the Blackburn match can make you as proud of us.
Hard to argue against the points that you raise, Roller, especially the singing; I just saw the highlights on MOTD, and while it made for pretty dismal viewing the noise was all the R's. But what struck me and concerned me was the apparent lack of fight and lack of pride on display; they seemed to be just going through the motions. I have been on the receiving end of many a spanking (football-wise I hasten to add) in my inglorious playing career but the little they showed in the highlights didn't reflect a team that were up for the contest. Was it really like that?
Didn't think they gave up and were composed professional footballers to the end. Fulham's link up play was nothing short of fantastic and they were potent, and organised ... they will get turned over themselves this season by 4 goals as will most in the premier middle league
Excellent analysis; had a bit of a grumble bout certain things yesterday myself. My only fear is that the high water-mark has already been reached by this team, and that by January we will be an unattractive prospect for possible new recruits. Blackburn at home has now become a must win game, especially considering the three subsequent games and our apparent lack of cutting edge.
I agree with all of the above Roller, nicely written. but I also agree with a lot of the negative posts too. I fear that QPR are turning me into a 'Schizo.' One minute I love Rangers, the next, I want them dead, and then I take comfort in the fact that we out-sung the home fans. For instance, after the game, I met a Fulham mate of mine on Putney Bridge. Of course he mentioned 6-0. To which my best comeback was '' At least we out-sung you, and your ground is a library. '' The look of bemusement on his face, summed up how desperate I ( we ) are. Little victories.
Thank you Roller. From several thousand miles away my first reaction to hearing the score was 'ouch'. Now just having logged on here I could not be bothered the read through the huge numbers of threads post defeat, but got the overall impression that the world has nearly come to an end, Adel some kind of traitor and Warnock completely lost. I've seen the highlights, we were dreadful, but can't comment on individual perfromances from them, but lets keep it in perspective guys, the only real surprise is that Fulham did this to us , we knew already: - Adel is about Adel and no one else - but he's our only player of potential genius. - Warnock is Warnock and he himself predicted a few thumpings this year (just wish this had been 5-0 a spanking, rather than 6-0 - a humiliation, and not a derby)- the fact is we did not have the personnel available for a Plan B on Sunday, because we do not yet have a premiership squad - our defence without all the new players is simply not good enough for this level The test is how we react to this. To be honest I had been more surprised at our performances in the last 3 games and it was being lulled into a false sense of security that made this result a shock.
yep good call roller, i phoned bbc london last night as to many negative calls & texts coming about warnock has lost the plot & should go & get o'neill in, ridiculous as i said on radio a & agree with you roller that nw wasn't given the funds earlier & if TF came in a lot sooner the likes of dyer, perone gabbidon etc would not have been here & no disrespect to them we would have got in better players, also quoted just get over it it was a one off performance hopefully & move on, in the end its one game & nil points but because it was fulham & the players should've been up for a local derby thats why a lot of fans are reacting like they are, give fulham some credit totally outplayed us, but myself & thousands more fans there spending 50quid a ticket it was unacceptable. also thought taarabt showed no respect to players & should have been made to sit with others watching 2nd half.
Roller, spot on. Think we should all calm down after last weekend - embarrassing as it was, it's only one game. The squad is obviously too thin to provide cover when we have suspensions and injuries - what would it have been like if TF and co had come in a few weeks earlier, we can only guess, but some of the freebies he bought in would not have even been invited to LR if the money for the right players had been there. NWs job is to keep us in the PL this season, nothing more, and if he manages to do that then we can all prepare for another season in PL with increased funds from the owners, building on our small foundations. I have no doubt that in the fullness of time our small club will become an established PL team, but these things take time - we just need to be patient - look how long it's taken the likes of Fulham and Stoke, and they are now regular top half clubs, with prospects of Europe - with the potential investment our owners have, we could be there too, in a few years. The knee jerk reactions (as per your other post) of some fans need to be taken into true perspective, in the cold light of day - yes, we got humped - yes, it was a local derby - but come on guys, we all knew there were going to be days like this - lets move on and get back behind our team - Come On You RRRRRRRRRRRRRRssssssss
