If he is as good as management as he is at being a captain then I pity the team that ends up with him

I think he is a decent captain. Personally I think he is a better skipper than McCauley, Norris, Sonko and Leadbitter (and anyone else we've had since De Vos)
At least with Carlos he can hold his head up in terms of his performances and efforts as he consistently one of our best/better players over the course of 90 minutes and clearly relishes the armband something that McCauley and Leadbitter in particular didn't seem too and looked like they went into their shell whenever they were wearing it

Reports from South London are suggesting that Crystal Palace have received an offer of a loan for Owen Garvan from us! Taken from an article in the Croydon Advertiser.

<laugh> I forgot, we are a bit light in CM!

I'm with KOPR on his captaincy, it doesn't faze him in one bit and is probably one of the few successes we have had under porno paul's reign.

    This cannot be true??

I have to say I watched them on T.V. the other day and I sat there thinking that fella in the middle of the park is having a cracking game. Driving runs, raking passing and dictating play looked strong on the ball and played with real fire and direction.... Then I realised it was Owen Garvan and I felt that annoying feeling I feel a lot as a town fan as the truth of the matter is we got rid of some players with the promise of buying in better and in reality I would have Trotter and Garvan in the team ahead of Norris, Leadbitter, Drury, Colback, Wellens and any other CM we have had over the past three years as they haven't been better and they have been getting payed a damn sight more!

King, Guru, all depends what you want from your captain. Personally I want a leader who will communicate, motivate and bark orders and I dont see that from him.

I haven't seen that since the days of De Vos or Holland and the past 4 years. Edwards for me is a step in the right direction and like I stated earlier he is at least an example on the pitch with his performances and work rate which must inspire something in his team mates.
He isn't the captaincy messiah but at least he gives something to the arm band rather than Leadbitter who simply played worse while he was wearing it and was as charismatic as a slippery fish

I have to say I wasn't the biggest fan of Edwards being Captain but I think he's actually been our best captain since De Vos!! He leads by example and his performances have improved. It seems that it weighed heavy on McAuley and Leadbitters shoulders!!

I still think if McAuley would have stayed he would have made a decent captain second time around last season!!

I always had a soft spot for Garvan, when he first came on the scene as a 17 year old I have never seen such a young player dictate a game like that. I still wish we had kept him like KOPR said really we haven't had any better and he was one of our own and actually when on form is still a very good player and one of the best passers of the ball in this division. I thought he was unfairly scape goated especially when Keane was here and was poorly managed for his potential really!! There must be something in it however because he was out of favour under Jim and Keane and hasn't really set the world alight at Palace and for someone of his potential at 17 he really should have fulfilled it better than he has.

I thought he was criticised a bit for his apparent poor defensive play but this IMO was because of his ungamely style when tracking back and his lack of pace but IMO he was actually defensively better than alot of people give in credit for and other players who could certainly tackle better than himself as his positional play was very good, in that way he reminded me of Michael Carrick who is not the strongest, not the quickest or the best at tackling but his positional play means he can read the game and the team keep a better shape. Someone say like Norris was a better tackler, more mobile and more tenacious and maybe better at winning the ball back but this was sometimes at the expense of the shape of the team and also his poor positional play!! I'm not saying Garvan was great defensively but he certainly wasn't as bad as he was made out to be. It's just a shame we never had a good manager to bring the best out in him. I could see Garvan and Hyam being the new Holland Magilton!!

But who knows what's going on in the minds of the people at the top atm, with this hap hazard approach to recruitment atm!!!

Being the best captain since De Vos isnt difficult, its about as much of a compliment as saying hes the nicest person since Hitler! - He has had no one even close to being able to 'compete' with in the time since JDV left.

I like Garvan and Hyam as players and would love to see them both here but would hate a midfield of those two. Garvans vision and Hyams tackling ability would be great but neither has great pace, power or presence and I could see them being out muscled easily. Would be good as a 2 of the midfield 3 in a 433 -451 type formation. On our youngsters I also wish we could call upon trotter, who has gone from defensive nobody under Roy to attacking midfield star at Millwall.

He's actually done very well for Millwall in the games I have seen and has been linked with both Arsenal and Spurs and Southampton if you believe paper talk (could well be rubbish) He also was responsible for the Millwalls goals when they came here last season, although that may not be too difficult with our defence. A star maybe going ott but he has found a decent role in the team and scored 16 goals in 78 appearances for them, which is better than our strikers can manage, let alone our midfield.

I agree on the Edwards front, he wouldn't be my ideal Captain, he's not a leader but I'm happy with him to continue being Captain for the time being and noone else really stands out as Captain material at the club currently except players who aren't our or have only been at the club a short amount of time or aren't actually our players i.e NRC, Higginbottham & Wellens.
