Two subtly different sets of quotes from Magpies 'keeper Tim Krul surfaced on Wednesday, after the playing spoke to reporters when linking up with Dutch senior squad.

From the Dutch media, Wednesday (translated):

Tim Krul refuses to return to Newcastle as the second choice goalkeeper. Last season he played 25 matches for the Premier League club and wants more.

"I am 23 years and now just wants to play a whole season. I will tell the trainer when I return the club."

"Initially I replaced goalkeeper (Steve) Harper, but was on the bench when Alan Pardew took over from Chris Hughton. Harper then got injured again and I played a series of good games to the end of the season when the manager trusted me as the first-choice goalkeeper.

"Something like that has to happen in the new season, otherwise it makes no sense to stay at Newcastle."

Tim Krul quotes, North East England media:

"I’ve been lucky enough to play a few games this season. The national manager said when he named the last squad that I’m on their radar, but I wasn’t playing at the time. It’s different now, and it’ll be fantastic to be involved.”

"I think (Alan Pardew) will want me to go away and enjoy myself (playing international football) – the experience will be amazing.

"Then I’ll fight pre-season – it’s one big fight, and I’ve got to make sure I’m fit. I’ve played 25 games this season, and that’s more than I expected. I’m more than happy with that.

"It’s been a great season. There’s been ups and downs, but we should take the positives and build on everything we’ve done.”

So does that mean if Harper continues as Number One then we lose Krul too, as sounds like he doesn't want to stick around otherwise.

He's an ambitious lad and will be saying this out of concern that he could end up 3rd choice if Forster plays well. If he actually does have a problem with not being 1st choice and Forster proves his worth then I reckon a loan to a newly promoted side or top championship side could be a good idea for Krul.

Good point. Personally, I rate him ahead of the other two Keepers, so would rather see Forster go on loan (in England, not Scotland again).

Think he still needs to improve his kicking (game on Sunday after they had equalised, took ages to get ready for the goal kick, took it from one side of the box to the other then just kicked it out of play for a throw, I felt sick lol), but other than that he's pretty good imo.

Personally I feel safer with Harper in goal, though Krul isn't close behind. When Harper ****s up we all remember it because it happens so rarely and when he makes a great save it's more or less forgotten by next weekend because it's expected.
I think Harper is definitely good enough to be first choice and after this long in waiting for the chance it would have to take a keeper much better than Krul to replace him.

Agree 100%, Harper still has a couple seasons at least left in him, he should be first choice.

I'm unsure. I'm gona feel bad whichever one gets left out though
However the tipping point for me is that we cant afford to let Krul go, therefore if we want to keep him, we have to play him
