Although generally speaking the priority is to get the players we already have gelled and performing to their full potential, January brings a chance of reinforcements. The BBC Gossip column has a report that Tim Cahill is looking for a short-term loan spell in the EPL during the MLS break, to maintain his performance levels and boost his prospects of featuring in the World Cup. If we are in need of a boost come January, as an attacking midfielder with a good goal scoring and assist record, I see him as a good shout. Bags of experience and very capable of coming on and turning a game. Probably affordable too I would think. <ok>

Great player in his day but more of an engine then a magician if you know what I mean, he is one of those determined players who can punch through teams, but for an attacking mid we need someone who is more creative.

If he's still in pretty good nick he would be an excellent addition although I would imagine that his wage demands would be pretty steep. Presumably the plan would be to have a midfield of Snod - Fer - Howson - Pilks with Cahill fighting Elmander to play off either RvW or Hooper?

Great player with an eye for goal - I'd welcome him if the opportunity came up.

Good competition fir Howsin though they seem like quite similar players. I'd prefer someone more in Wes's mould but I would certainly be happy if we did get him in short term.

Sorry to stick my nose in but it always seems to strike me that you guys have continually misused Howson and although he is starting to perform well for you guys your still not getting the best out of him. He should be playing off the striker (a bit like Cahill does) and thats when he causes problems for teams and creates a heap of chances.

I don't think Cahill will give us anything we are in need of.

He is tall, athletic and good in the air, definitely not a Hughton player then?

    Bah!

I'm of two minds, he is a good player who may add a little to the team and would definitely to the squad. Would I have him? actually may be yes but more to denigh a potential relegation rival of his services. I'd rather we started really getting the best out of the already capable players we have though. Alot would hinge on where we are when he becomes available.

Midtable and slightly comfy looking - no thanks
Midtable and nervously peering at the relegation places 2-3 ponits behind - dependant on how the team and in particular the midfield are functioning - possibly
Relegation places - Probably - fresh and experienced blood could be just what we need to give us the impetous needed.

    Bah!

As above if in good nick, then fantastic squad player. Given he is versatile would be great cover/competition for central midfield spots. Good impact sub

I think it depends on whether City have identified players they want to sign at CAM. IMO, Toivonen is no longer of interest after his reluctance and the signing of Elmander (who, after all, is still keeping him out of the Swedish squad). I would prefer to see a permanent signing, but if hat isn't possible, Cahill might be a possibility.
