TIGER CUBS ON BOARD Much-loved Râs to lead charge to Charlton ⦠QPR in the Community Trust are delighted to announce QPRâs Tiger Cubs will lead this year's Tiger Feet walk in a bid to raise £10,000. Nine members of its Downs Syndrome side â setting off from Cutty Sark â will join a 40-strong army of Rangers supporters making the 13-mile walk from Loftus Road to The Valley on Saturday 22nd February. The challenge is all in aid of the Tiger Cubs, who will be presented at half-time to celebrate their efforts during the R's Championship clash with Charlton Athletic. Run in partnership with the Downs Syndrome Association, the Tiger Cubs project provides children and young people with Downs Syndrome the same opportunities as their able-bodied peers. The last four walks have raised over £28,000 and, during their 20th anniversary, the Trust are urging the Râs faithful to dig deep once again. âWe are really looking forward to this yearâs walk,â Fiona Hodgson, Business Development Manager, told www.qpr.co.uk. âIt is always such a positive event. âThe QPR fans have shown great support of the Tiger Cubs when they celebrate their birthday on the pitch each year and by taking part in the walk. âThis year the project has grown from strength to strength, from adding an adultâs team, cookery and tennis sessions, to the regular weekly football that we already delivered. âProjects such as the Tiger Cubs started out through grant funding and we now need to sustain and grow further. The Tiger Feet walk is an essential fundraiser for the project and if you are able to sponsor the walkers we would really appreciate it.â So far Tiger Feet 5 has raised just over £2,500. Another reason I love our club so much. Always brings a real tear to my eye when you see the cubs have a kick about at half time. Makes me very proud.
The Tiger Cub's is a great conception. I hope that everyone that can will support this great cause. The Tiger Cubs always get a great reception at half time at home games from the faithful.
Quick reminder that it is Tiger Feet this Saturday. http://davidmcintyre.wordpress.com/2014/02/20/tiger-feet-5-your-help-needed-for-a-wonderful-cause/
TIGER FEET 5 SUCCESS Over £12, 800 raised for QPR Tiger Cubs ... RECORDS were broken, as QPR in the Community Trust kick-started their 20th anniversary celebrations with Tiger Feet 5 on Saturday. Forty QPR supporters embarked on the 14 mile walk from Loftus Road to The Valley, all in aid of the QPR Tiger Cubs, our very own Downs Syndrome football team. The event – the fifth of its kind following previous walks to Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur and Watford – has to date raised in excess of £12,800, significantly eclipsing previous year’s totals. For the first time this year, the walkers were joined by the stars of the show themselves – the QPR Tiger Cubs. Nine members of the team, accompanied by their parents and kids from the Charlton Upbeats squad – the Addicks' Downs Syndrome sports club run by Charlton Athletic Community Trust – walked the final two miles from the Cutty Sark to The Valley, to the delight of Trust CEO Andy Evans. “It was a truly incredible day for the Trust and I am eternally grateful to everyone who played their part,” he told www.qpr.co.uk. “The fact the children were able to join us for the final couple of miles made it extra special and we were all given a lift when we saw them all waiting for us at the Cutty Sark. “This event continues to go from strength-to-strength and all the proceeds from the walk will make a huge difference in benefiting the project.” Run in partnership with the Downs Syndrome Association, the Tiger Cubs project provides children and young people with Downs Syndrome the same opportunities as their able-bodied peers. At half-time during Saturday’s match, the Cubs and the Upbeats took part in a lap of honour round the pitch, with both set of supporters rising to their feet to celebrate their efforts. Fiona Hodgson, Business Development Manager for the Trust, added: “The reception the children got was amazing. “The kids enjoyed every minute of it and I know their parents, having spoken to many of them on the day, are eternally grateful to all the walkers and fundraisers. “The money we’ve raised will be put to good use in developing the project and providing the children with more incredible opportunities.” Since Tiger Feet’s inception in 2010, the walks have now raised in excess of £40,000 in total.
