Does anyone remember those halcyon Premiership days when just as the teams would take to the pitch at the beginning of a match, flurries of ticket tape would be thrown throughout the stadium, raining down on the pitch? I miss that ticker tape, it was awesome.
I think they do it in Rugby matches if it's the final/semi final. Football stadiums only do that after the final whistle of cup finals now, when the trophy is given to the captain!
I wish i was. "Fire authorities are set against Ticker-Tape at Fratton Park mainly due to the old wooden North and South Upper stands. Derek Stone has also said that Ticker tape can't be thrown due to health and safety reasons." Derek stone also said that it was a hazard cos it's slippery when wet.
Better ban flag on poles too, they're a health and safety hazard as you could poke someone in the eye with them. And while we're at it let's ban pole-less flags too, you could strangle someone with one. Perhaps we should be chanting, it might affect people's hearing and we should ban jumping up and down if anyone scores as people might fall over
I can remember it far back beyond the prem days..........my first ever outing to FP as a 5 yr old saw me covered from head to foot in torn up newspaper ticker tape BP
You do realise that health and safety rules are there to protect the public ,don't you? Throwing torn up bits of paper around is pretty irresponsible.
A far more serious worry to my mind, was the matter of the TV aerial dangling from the roof of the South Stand the other week, presumably dislodged by strong wind, which could have landed on a child in the Family Section. God knows who, but someone went up on the roof to remove it at half time ! Thinking about it, it was probably poor old Barry Harris they ordered up there
Some of the rules at football do baffle me some what. Yeovil away this year was a good example. On the way in I had my plastic bottle top confiscated 5 seconds after the steward had let a few blokes in with 3 foot long umbrellas with metal spikes on the end! Surely that's going to do more damage? I used to take in bags of torn up newspaper in the mid 90's to throw from the kids cage next to the tunnel when the players came out. Don't remember any of them falling on the slippery step mind you.........
What about the pea in the referee's whistle ? God help us if that comes out and lands on the pitch, and a player trips over it.
Or a sudden gust of wind whipping a yellow card out of his hand, and striking a glancing blow on a player's head rendering him injured.......
No, they're there to protect companies and organisations from ambulance chasing lawyers and people who take no responsibility for their own safety.
When Ashley Williams kicked the football at Robin Van Persie a few weeks ago, I agree with Alex Ferguson. The poor lad is lucky to be alive after something like that! BREAKING NEWS: Sir Alex Ferguson has told his players not to head the ball in their game v Real Madrid. He said that it could lead to instant death for the player.
