The clock is ticking, the days are passing and still no 'kin signing, time is running out, time for a panic buy or 2!!!!!
Warky, things are getting that desperate i'm finding myself visiting the football rumours web site!!!
" good things come to those who wait............hopefully. " I would like to think so. In all honesty, can you guys name clubs who have brought many players in during the transfer window !? I notice Coventry have signed the legendary Hreidarsson on a free, would have certainly been worth taking.....
Westy I can't say that i know of any club that has bought in many players but then again i can't say that i know of any club that is as desperate as us for new players!!
It has been a very slow transfer window for everyone so far, will there suddenly be a flurry of activity in the last few days? Sometimes it takes one transfer to set the merry-go-round rolling. I find it strange that, even with the financial backing we have, we can't seem to prise players away. I know we shouldn't pay over the odds for players but it seems like ME has gone from one extreme to the other. From paying stupid money for players we now seem to want everyone for the price of a curly wurly.
clubs are probably trying to hold us to ransom, knowing how desperate we are. we need someone with excellent bargaining skills and nerves of steel. step forward ......... mr clegg da du da du du du!
Their idea of “getting a couple of players in as soon as possible” seems to be: 1: Hang about for a week after the transfer window opens 2: Put in an “official” bid by letter, preferably second class – must keep to budget on postage and stationery, y’know 3: Wait a week for the inevitable knock-back – well, the bid was purposefully derisory after all. You have to haggle. 4: Wait another few days to ponder the next offer 5: Repeat 1 to 4 until the transfer window has two days left and get in a couple of panic-stricken emergency loans. What’s the matter with them? Just get on the arseing phone to Portsmouth and sort it twatting out.
Whatever happens between now and next Tuesday it isn’t going to be enough, we are destined for league 1 football thanks to Clegg's mismanagement & Keane & Jewells inability to sort out the blatantly obvious. For what it is worth there is no way we are going to sign the 6 (IMO) players we need to keep us up, We need a good experienced keeper, a right back, 2 x centre backs, a centre midfielder and a striker. We are lacking in these departments & in most cases woeful. I also don't think at this time there is a worse team than us in this division; Forest beat us twice, Millwall thrashed us away, Donny beat us at home, Watford have already beaten us at home & we all know what our record away is like, Bristol City & Coventry both show signs of improvement. Although we look better going forward we are worse than ever at the back. We offer peanuts for players & wonder why we don't get them, now it looks like we are going to lose them to others, as I feared on another thread. It was mentioned in jest elsewhere about a few Barcelona players were linked with us, well that is the calibre required to turn this around so long as Jewell remains in charge. Our situation is teetering on catastrophic, for all those who think we may be better off going down, do not be blinkered by City (Naaarwich or Manchester) take a look at the likes of Luton, Oxford, Swindon, Bradford, Charlton & Sheffield Utd & Weds. All of these clubs were in the top couple of flights sometime in the past 20yrs, some are now showing signs of recovery others are still outside the football league. I just don’t think we would be a “Bounce back club” Splash the cash Evans & Clegg, you think it’s bad now wait till next season when in League 1 we have gates of less than 14,000…..
Spot on Hoppers, apparently we have now bid for 5 players, i wonder how many of them we will get. I also see we only upped our 2nd offer to 1.4 million for Pearce and Ward, thats an absolute disgrace in my eyes, we then up it to £2 million which i think is about right but i then read that we want a third player included in the deal. If Pompey told us to go screw ourselves i wouldn't blame them!!!
I don't think its a disgrace trying to take advantage of Pompey's financial meltdown. When we were in a right mess, I didn't see any clubs bothering to make us a fair offer whatsoever. Oh no. Hopefully, the 3rd bid will be accepted. We've overpaid for so many players the last 4 years. However, I agree I would like them to come so the next bid hopefully will do it.
Hello all. This my first post on, Not 606. Paul Jewell is doing at Ipswich, exactly what he did at Derby, by bringing in even more players, without addressing the problems at the club. Yes, I know the club needs defenders. But, Jewell should of made the defence his first priority in the summer. The thrashings handed out to Ipswich by Norwich, Swansea and Leicester at the end of last season and maulings given to the club by Southampton and Peterborough at the start of this season, clearly highlighted that the club needed the defence sorted. However, even with defenders being brought in on loan and permanently. The club has conceded 59 goals in all competitions this seasons and since Paul Jewell became the ITFC manager, Ipswich have conceded 95 goals. Only another five goals to go until the club and Jewell hit the big 100 goals scored against. Thus, it really doesn't matter who the club signs, as it would not stop the team leaking goals. The main problems are on the training pitch and tactics employed by Jewell. Paul Jewell should of been removed from his position as Ipswich Manager, after the Burnley disaster. The fact he is still here, proves that Evans and Clegg know very little about football. Ipswich are heading to League One and Evans and Clegg will only realise this until it is far too late. The club have not played at that level since 1957! Yes as mentioned the club needs defenders. But first, Ipswich need a competent manager who can save the club from relegation!
Anyone seen enough of Crewe's Nick Powell to suggest an appropriate fee? Sounds like we bid just over a million for him, apparently that deal is dead now though which is a shame.
