I hope no one minds an amateur starting the thread I was really intrested in the 5 oclock at chester gaulwood looked my first choice but the more I studied the more I fancied HAYLAMAN which was on at 9/1 it is ideally suited to distance conditions and weight the last run was 16 days ago after a long break so should be relatively fresh .
I was going to wait till someone else started the thread but since studying / Backing there seems to have been a fair bit of backing and is now down to around 5/1 ! Good luck all

Am going against both of you- going for a horse on form Flying Power Has been running throughout the winter and winning too so fitness wont be a problem, is proven on the turf too so you cant rule him out, has a very nice mark to run off tomorrow and if anyone shows a sign of a lack of fitness he will take full advantage of this!

2.45 Chester FEEL LIKE DANCING 9/2

Beautiful looking son of Galileo and looks a stout stayer in the making (Maid Of Kileen is a dam who has plenty of stamina in her pedigree). Is a full brother to Suraj- a 97-rated handicapper over 1m4f-2m.

I often like horses who surprise their trainers on the track. Buick said he looked after him on debut and only gave him one nudge with the whip and he then simply won the race himself, and he might be the sort of type to possibly head to Epsom as an interesting outsider who is guaranteed to stay the trip. He hit top stride at the end of his race on debut and obviously the concern would be the tight Chester track. However, we take a chance on him getting out well from stall 2 and that he can kick on from a prominent position.

The form of Ruler Of The World does not look great thus far, although visually he looked a nice stayer and he does look the nimbler of the two, hence he could yet be suited to Chester.

I remember Nathaniel coming to this meeting 2 years ago when a narrow 2nd to Treasure Beach and Buick said the race made a man of that horse (he had only raced twice prior to that- once as a 2 year old and in an egg and spoon race on reappearance as a 3 year old). Clearly this is a horse who has taken time to develop having made his debut this season as a 3 year old, but I think Gosden and Buick have a feeling there is a good bit left in the tank so they pitch him in here to see if he has the tactical speed to earn a spot as a lively outsider in the Derby.

I would be very interested if anyone could quote me a price for the St Leger, however.

Welcome Uncle, I initially was also interested in the horses you mentioned as Gaulwood looks like he has ability,y and you can bet that the yard have targeted the race with him, but Haylaman looks as though he could have an extra bit of class, but has yet to show it. As I felt both had question marks with regard actually doing it on the track however I decided to go for the unexposed Proofreader at 13-2. This horse could be anything, and as John Gosden usually likes a winner or two at this meeting I am going with the idea that there is more to come from him.

Good luck however and thanks for starting the thread.

I rewatched his debut the other day Toppy when looking for Derby outsiders that could improve and whilst I like the horse and obviously Gosden does too his performance was only very workmanlike. The horse he touched off has won since but doesnt look a world beater and several finished close enough to suggest there wasnt anything outstanding in the form. Feel Like Dancing was being cajoled along from about three furlongs out and got up in the dying strides without really finding a turn of foot. I hope you prove me wrong but I cant see him being Group Class on that performance. Which means he is probably a shoo in lol

Thatvwas the only thing, but watching his wins he did look to have more in the tank but as you say at 16/1 it definately worth taking a chance at that price lol

Agreed- there was no real tactical speed on display from him but he was learning all the time and Buick has given him one tap and then the horse has got up under hands and heels and is hitting full tilt at the line. Obviously the worry today is that Chester is a tight track where you could use a bit of speed and he might be found wanting.

He was 5/1 on debut and Buicks reaction was really positive and surprised at how good a horse he felt. I just feel he might be one of those horses to improve. If he gets a bit of a lesson in tactical speed today then the Derby is ruled out but I can envisage him at least staying the Leger trip, if not necessarily winning it.

Just thinknhe is worth taking a punt on with the view to a nice price that contracts if he runs well.

I hope you are right and frankly you are a better judge than me lately. Good luck with him today. He wouldnt be the first horse to come on leaps and bounds for the yard would he. Why didn't he race as a 2yo? Too backward?

I would have thought he was not really a forward two year old but then again their best mile and a half horse for some time-Nathaniel- only ran once at two so they don't rush the middle distance types. It was actually this race where Nathaniels brave effort in defeat mafe Gosden realise he was a solid animal. He went on to run in the Group2 at Royal Ascot (King Edward is it called?) and thisnhorse is also entered in that race. However, Gosdens reasoning for skipping the Derby with him was ground as he felt Nathaniel needed a bit of cut.

Is a nice enough little contest today.

They say he is a bit slow toppy, potential cup horse in time, not impossible for him to win today as if the Obrien runner doesn't produce then its not exactly a strong race, Gabrials Kaka is average at best and the Johnson horse is a mudlark who probably wont handle the track.

Personally, I think Ruler Of The World is a jailcase and im on at 7/4, but id like to see the Gosden runner stay on for second.

You can have 6/1 with Hills now about Gosdens.
