I see the Shark has Hidden Cyclone down for a spin on the flat at Leopardstown in the 9:00. Plenty short at 5/4 currently so just a watching brief. I wonder what his plan is long term then with the horse as it is an unusual step even if he can pick up the 7500 odd 1st place prize money.

The numpties have had the dreaded taps on at Newmarket but there are already non runners because of the quick ground. Let us hope there is no rain before Saturday or the July Meeting will become a joke on false ground.

The Bahrain Trophy appears to be a gamble on which of Horseshoe Bay and Mr Singh decides to try and make all the running; so one to just watch.

In the July Stakes there are a couple of Royal Ascot form lines but it is hard to fancy the Windsor Castle form as that was five furlongs; and despite Hannon’s great record in this race I do not fancy Coventry Stakes third Eltezam, so that leads me to course and distance winner Elronaq, but not with sufficient confidence to lump on.

The day’s feature is the Princess Of Wales’s Stakes, where the unbeaten Mahsoob takes the step from Listed handicap to Group 2 race. I think this may be a leap too far and he faces three seasoned campaigners: Hillstar ran moderately on his return in the Hardwicke Stakes behind stablemate Snow Sky with Sheikhzayedroad ahead of him (and never seems to settle), whilst Gospel Choir won a Listed race over course and distance on his seasonal debut. SECOND STEP beat Telescope (closely matched with Hillstar at Ascot) back in May and has a penalty for that success but can defy it. The biggest problem here could be lack of pace unless Big Orange makes it (has before).

Dissolution has been expensive to follow of late, so I will leave him alone today and he will bolt up in the 3:45. With Estidhkaar out of the Sir Henry Cecil Stakes (5:30), I do not think I will be getting my Royal Ascot money back on Bossy Guest either as he will be a short-priced favourite and is closely matched with Tupi.

Always look for previous course winners at Epsom. This evening we have:

    7.10 Starwatch (CD)
    7.45 Eton Rambler (CD)
8.50 Swiss Cross (CD) and Dr Red Eye

Having backed Mahsoob on all of his wins this season, I'm going to keep faith with him and get involved at 9/4 in Newmarkets 3.15. I think he is ready for the step up in class, and 12 furlongs looked like it would suit, as he's looked strongest at the end of his 10f victories. He didn't win by that far at Ascot, but it was a very muddly race with very little pace, so that was to be expected. It was still a very hot Royal Ascot handicap though.

They've had the King George in mind for him for along time, so if they think that highly of him then he should have no problems winning this. So il be very dissapointed if he can't hold onto his unbeaten record today

That won't wash with zee Germans Sir Barney - they have no idea what cricket is.

We're venturing into the brave new world here though. Yesterday, I Kid (with a capital K) you Not (with a capital N) we were shown a "motivational" pitch from the management which actually included the following quote: "Culture eats strategy for breakfast". The old mind certainly does Boggle with a capital B

Is there anyone better than Frankie for a front-running ride? Good showing by horse and jockey.

My mind is already boggled. Can you track down the author?

Erm, do you know that cricket was very popular at the turn of the last century especially in the Berlin area? So, what would "lbw" be in Deutsch, "BvG" (Bein vor Gatter)?...........Jeeeze! <laugh>
