What is it with your big priced winners/placings Pilgrim? Are you in the know, or a very good race reader, or do you have a magic pin?

If it’s a magic pin, could you let me know where I could get one?

It's just luck, sometimes it's good and sometimes it's bad. I had three bets today, the two I posted on the forum and Drumlee Spud in the first race at Stratford, who fell at the last hurdle, when I think he was almost certainly going to win. Bad luck. Martalmix'jac from 12/1 to a 5/1 SP and came fifth when four places paid. Bad luck.

About Stickman... The trainer had a winner a couple of weeks ago at Limerick, 25/1. The horse runs in a bumper today after running over hurdles, and significantly down in trip (2m), after a 5/14 (125/1) in a better race than today over 2m 4f ½, he was wearing blinkers for the first time and as there are some very rare results in Ireland, with minimal investment… Good luck this time.

My biggest winner has been my beloved Head To The Stars 100/1 at Leicester on 28 December 2016, SP 40/1, but I took 100/1 in the morning. Don't look for the race on Sportinglife because it didn't exist for them, but it can be found on Racing Post (https://www.racingpost.com/results/30/leicester/2016-12-28/664859) and irishracing (https://www.irishracing.com/raceresults/Wed-28th-Dec-2016/Leicester/1435) where you can see the horse was 100/1 in the morning. I still have the photocopy of the bet. Also, Auroras Encore 66/1 in the Grand National.

Since I've been writing here, my biggest odds on winners have been two 40/1. I think one was a Sandy Thomson trained horse, but I can't remember which one. The other was Romantically at Dundalk (https://www.not606.com/threads/wednesday-18th-december-2019.380043/page-2). Ireland again.

There is no magic pin, like everyone else I fail a lot more than I win, although it is true that maybe I risk too much with the high odds. For the weekend, by contrast, I already have two bets with quite low odds, one of them in the Breeders' Cup that I bet on more than a month ago. Probably, in spite of being in second position in the market, none of them will win.

Very impressive. You don't need many winners at those odds

Well, but that happens once in a thousand bets, or once a year or two at most. Usually they all go in the bin. Betting at such high odds is the surest way to lose.

Modest too. You don't seem to be doing too badly with the ones you put up on here

Now I remembered my other 40/1, not Sandy T. the trainer but N.G. Richards. The horse was Takingrisks on 30 January 2021.

Talking of taking risks, my biggest odds winner was 100/1, but it was a 4 horse accumulator at Cheltenham and I borrowed a fiver off my then girl friend (*now wife) to put the bet on. Biggest single win was 66/1 GN winner Last Suspect (but as far as I remember I didn't have a penny on the race; just told everyone else to back it)

I should just clarify, that isn't why I married her <laugh>

Guess mine was Cue Card in the Cheltenham Champion Bumper, can't remember the price I got but it was pretty big. Was funny on the day as I hardly got one 'well done', because Princess Newmarket (bless her) came up with a 100-1 winner on that same day. That taught me a lesson if nothing did. <laugh>

The winnings in the back pocket is all the acknowledgement you could ever need Swanny :1980_boogie_down:
