Morning all, Been away for a few days in Wales, cor blimey this Climate Change malarkey does make for nice holidays. So with handicap marks out for the festival, who has floated onto the radar?
Jezki has floated off it. Ran a cracker of 145 in Ireland last time and has been given 155 for the County Hurdle / Coral Cup Filthy.
Funny you mention an Irish horse, the entries in the handicaps look dominated by Irish horses. It could be a long four days for British trainers, especially those going for handicaps
I had the festival mag drop onto the mat this week and read the feature on Gordon Elliott. I'd forgotten that his great 8 from 2018 started off in dismal circumstances on the Tuesday with his banker of the meeting (Apples Jade) turned over. From zero on Tues evening to 8/21 over the next 3 days. And in 5 of those 21 races he had no runners. I've also seen a stat somewhere (I'll have to dig it out) that following Gordy blind in the handicaps returns a profit. Obviously Veneer of Charm helped enormously in 2018 prevailing at 33/1. Re today's NH fayre another lazy bet. Multiples involving the fat man from Somerset entries at Taunton and Ludlow. Good luck all.
Don’t forget, troops, that in the last 2 terms Irish horses have won 8/10 handicap hurdles. Not a great surprise that the old boy handicapper is being a bit sterner this year after calls that in ’17 and ’18 he had been far too lenient. Coole Cody off 139 (11-1 in impost terms) now guaranteed a run in the ‘Pertemps Final’. And 50’s is still available!
Decent money around this morn for The Last Samuri in the latter contest (although also holds an entry in a valuable 'Veterans' heat at Newbury on Saturday). Some seemingly believing he will go down 'The Tiger Roll route' prior to Aintree.
Spicy chicken pasta salad. A tad too spicy and I had to drink 2 (rather than the usual 1) buckets of water. 4/10.
Blimey, how decadent. Whilst you are on, are you seething at the blokes with pink silks? Moving a horse from Needle to the amazing Mr Nicholls!! Corr blinking blimey
Absolutely. The most shocking decision since the last most shocking decision. The old girls jumping had gone to pot though. If she jumps she should win against just 2 opponents this afternoon. Strange they are persisting with her though rather than sending her to the old breeding sheds as she is a 3 time winner, cost £120k and would be a valuable addition to any paddock. Unless they think they can nick ‘black type’ further down the line.
hi fellas! musselburgh,2 45: although MONSIEUR CO has to concede lumps of weight here, especially to yesterdays winner john williams, but hes still on a workable mark, compared to the past,he still rates a very solid candidate,as he won well here recently, and can go well again..
ludlow,3 35: TOMMY SILVER was very unlucky here last time out, when he was carried out with every chance, and he can make amends today, off the same mark,as when a good second two starts ago.big shout!
