Gosden has his first Royal runner today with Pianissimi at Chelmsford. The bookies are not taking too much of a chance though.

Ask the Weatherman is a very strange runner in Exeter 15.10 Novices' Hurdle. Multiple winner of PTP, he was third favorite at the Cheltenham Festival in 2017 at the Foxhunters Chase being seventh. After a long break he won here in Exeter in class 3 and then he tried in Welsh National and in two other races pulled up in the three. He returns today after nine months without running and the surprising thing is that he runs for the first time in his life in hurdles at nine years old. He has a wind surgery and with odds on 8/1 he may deserves a small bet e/w.

Edit: Now 11/1.

Hello, all.

Quick review of yesterday’s selected. The hurdlers first. Rathhill started his career in that sphere with a very nice win and looks one most deffo to follow for the rest of the campaign. Promising with a capital ‘P’. Downtown Getaway just found one too good and also has to be said ran a race full of promise. In contrast though Trull La La didn’t exactly set the world alight at Ludlow. Because of the name (linked to the owners stud) am still keen to follow this one. Better next time and all that, I hope.

As to the level I was very pleased to see Mouchee oblige at the huge odds of 33/1. Hope some of the regular readers got on. I probably should have, but as I said in the write up, decided not to back him due to his woeful recent form. In hindsight though the combination of the jockey booking, Mouchee’s course form and the fall in his perch all should have led to him being backed – one that got a way, methinks. Am delighted that the stable had a winner though after yonks without one. It should also be highlighted that old girl Megan Nicholls has won on her last 2 rides in ‘apprentice only’ contests – at 33/1 and 11/1.

Old boy Gosden having a runner for The Queen, today, brings back memories of when Tony Blair, at his zenith, had an audience with the Pope. At the time ‘New Labour’ devotees were asking, without any hint of irony, ‘I wonder which one of them will conduct the blessing???’

As I recall that event I bet racing fans are all currently pondering, ‘Who will bow??? Old boy Gosden or The Queen?!?’ Makes you contemplate somewhat, don’t it, team?!?

This will probably be my last meander onto the forum, this side of the big day, so now seems like the perfect moment to wish everyone, and I do mean everyone, a very, very Merry Christmas. Have a great time, team.

And if Santini goes to Kempton Park, on St Stephen’s Day, then that would unquestionably be the Festive highlight, re the racing action, for me. Potentially I think he’s the best we’ve seen for a while and let’s hope he further enhances that view next time. In Lieutenant Henderson we trust and all that…

All the best, people, and take care.

Have a splendid Christmas. I will be in Sydney on Boxing Day, 11 hours ahead of the UK which means the King George will go off just after 2 AM local time. I shall endeavour to watch <ok>

exeter,3 10:

UNWIN VC has already shown enough ability to be competitive here, and was maybe flying a bit too high last time out..

Oh eck, backed PIAZON last night @ 11/4. Now 10/1. Think his course form is really good and was winning here last year off a lot higher marks.
