Another horse who has tonnes of ability but doesn’t seem straightforward to me. At odds on today I am very tempted to back the second favourite against him. Such an unappealing card at Stratford today, how we need some softer ground!
Saturday more than ever - Wetherby good, Ascot good-firm, Down Royal good. Connections of Coneygree, Bristol De Mai and Thistlecrack will be praying for rain. Talking of Saturday, I noticed that Go Conquer has been moved from Jonjo to the Twister and is 9/2 fav for the Sodexo Gold Cup. I think the handicapper has taken a right old chance dropping him back to 147, just 5lbs above his rating when he dotted up in this last year.
The paradox about that heat is that the 2nd fave was at Seven Barrows for 2 and a half years up to the end of term 2017/18. He then left the yard, for the sales, before failing to reach his reserve (this was a very large amount and bidding went up as far as £74,000). The old boy then had a relaxing summer, in a field, before joining the Skelton’s. Stowaway Magic has always hinted at being good but his form over fences of -222 (beaten twice at odds-on and the other time at 11/8) hardly installs huge confidence. I think you would have to say that the Lieutenant would be disappointed if Tom didn’t win well this afternoon. However, Stowaway Magic has to be respected because of the big money the owners turned down in the summer. I see that the market has them '100/1 bar 2' with Stowaway Magic seemingly more poppular on Oddschecker.
Is there any news of another Seven Barrows inmate Soul Emotion? I was very impressed with him last season, and have been keeping a watchful eye for his return, but there are no future entries .......
He was totally mullered by the handicapper after his last run at Sandown – put up 15 lbs to 152. Is supposed to be staying over hurdles (still only 5) but off that mark things will be much tougher this time around. Will either have to carry a lot of weight in handicaps or start contesting Graded affairs. Guessing he will be running over more extreme tests this term and you can get 33/1 for him re the Stayers Hurdle.
I say what wise words they were. Whoever that was should be feted on the forum and put up as an example to everyone – maybe even build a statue. Yes, Stowaway Magic didn’t improve on his debut for the Skelton’s – went down at odds-on.
That’s not bad money at all. You must be pleased with that sum. Good luck to The Squire and really hopes he does well at his new home. Is that any relation to Marjorie Fife??? That’s who the Blake’s got Broadway Dreams from. Small world if it is.
Tom and Marjory? Sounds like The Good Life .................... oh wait, no that was Margo wasn't it? And Tom was married to Barbara. It's all coming back now
Yes Tom is her husband. Nice people so a very good home. I am sure the change of scenery will do him good and hope they manage to get him back in the winners enclosure.
