a speculative bet Master Tradesman 25/1 , 2 35 ludlow , james bowen booked for this new trainer with the real magic hands , all his previous runners have won , just going with the flow.......
Something to warm the cockles on a cold winter's day - Sprinter Sacre vs. Sanctuaire in the Tingle Creek. Worth listening to Nick Luck and Jonathan Neesom after the finish. "Well well, what kind of ridiculous, unthinkable monster is this?"
Winter Lightning running on dirt in January.... I know her sister Ihtimal romped the UAE 1000 before running 3rd in the English but id prefer a horse of that potential to start back on turf in 4 months time. Shes a half sister to Thunder Snow and Always Smile too, top class dam has yet to produce anything other than Group horses. This one ran a nice race on debut, 2nd to one of Stoutes best 2yo fillies Veracious, giving experience. Im very surprised to see Oisin Murphy on the other Bin Suroor runner who looks like she will want a bit further than 7f but I dont know whether he had the choice or not. Rayya looked an absolute monster first time and obviously has no issue with the course or distance but im backing Winter Lightning 9/2 for an interest as I like her, be interesting to see how she fares against this beast in a cracking race for the time of year. Also have a bit of My Catch 15/2 in the sprint.
The mighty Sprinter Sacre, best I have seen along with Dessie. Ended up watching his other races on the links with that o e, the 2016 Cheltenham win still gets the juices flowing.
Another old favourite - Dunguib winning the Champion Bumper. Did ever a horse come down the hill tanking like that? Then he breezes past the future Ascot Gold Cup winner. Post-race analysis again worth listening to - pure incredulity
Eccleston 2.20 Southwell 6/1ew He’s run respectably in two spins at Newcastle and Wolverhampton and Southwell might be third time lucky, different type of Surface might just do the trick for this one in a lower grade than ever.
A bit of movement on this one last night and this morning. I don't know how deeply you looked at the horse itself but it won a couple of point to points last season and contested the Pt2Pt Final at Cheltenham where he lasted a circuit and a bit taking the fences out by their roots before the amateur finally called time, probably to preserve himself. You regularly see pointers go novice chasing with mixed success and more often running in bumpers but you don't often see them trying their luck over hurdles. I shall watch with interest.
i didn't look that far at the time to be truthful , saw his name and colours and j bowen booked and thought should flag it up while the price was juicy , he seems to have done the same with his previous winners though , took them down the hurdle route , been impressed with the way they've won , no fluke , perhaps they were his best two , but i'm willing to go with the flow ..... cheers stick
I never understood why they didn’t just transfer Dunguib to the Flat after his ‘Champion Bumper’ win. He was so smooth and had an unbelievable turn of foot when he won that mentioned race. I always wonder what might have been re him and the level. As I’ve said many times similar sentiments from me re My Tent or Yours and Flat racing.
Suppose it depends on connections - some may prefer a tilt at the Champion Hurdle rather than poncing around Royal Ascot
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I think, re My Tent or Yours, a lot of him staying over hurdles was due to his owner having a mad crush on his then retained rider. I don’t think it would have been the same for him to have someone else in the plate. Said this before as well. One year, early on in his career, My Tent did come back early from his hols with a view to being prepared to run in Newbury’s ‘Geoffrey Freer’ so that a proper grasp of his Flat credentials could be established. The plan was never fully carried through though. Shame as with his cruising speed and ability to quicken he could have been quite a tool in that sphere. It could even ultimately have led to Lieutenant Henderson going to Longchamp (or wherever a rearranged Arc was held) on the first Sunday in October…nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more. Nothing wrong with a day at ‘Royal Ascot’, old boy. Always nice to exchanging pleasantries with Princess Camilla, salute Her Majesty and laugh yourself silly at the pantomime antics of the whole day.
A somewhat lesser light from the same barn, I remember Tetlami showing a lovely turn of foot to win a "bumper for jumpers" heat at Southwell Sands a few years ago. Might have been worth a try with him on the flat too. And possibly even the supremely talented and ill-fated Darlan ............. hey-ho, more thoughts from yesteryear. I do declare I'm in danger of becoming a sentimental old fool
The decision to keep My Tent or Yours over hurdles could be vindicated if he wins the Champion Hurdle though.... Who is to say Faugheen will turn up in top tip shape and I see an entry for him in the Stayers Hurdle today..lol. I must say Buveur D'air has looked so impressive but you never know. Mustered a win at Cheltenham eventually...may give horse some confidence and he settles way better than ever before...I backed him last 2 years and will probably do the same this year as long as it's not soft or worse...
I actually like the Henderson runner. It went off favourite for the Newbury listed bumper that Bullionaire won last term. That race has been a winner factory and if this one was the jolly he must have been pretty highly thought of.
