The going is heavy at Tra Mhòr. I needed a boat to row home from work in Waterford today on the heavy side of heavy imo. Always feel it's a very dangerous track when it rides either heavy or when it rains after a period of fine weather.
TACENDA 25/1 Exeter 1.30 Taking on some seriously stiff competition but the word is that the yard REALLY like this youngster!
Hello, crew. What did we make of Cosmeapolitan yesterday then?!? Eh, I say, eh?!? One was at the coalface Christmas dinner table when he obliged but saw the heat yesterday eve and would grade his debut – C+, nice, solid introduction. Travelled lovely into the home straight before making a hash of the 3rd last and then was even worse at the penultimate obstacle. However, was much more professional over the last and then quickly and effortlessly put the race to bed. The main thing from yesterday though is that he proved 2 miles was no problem over timber and Cosmeapolitan undoubtedly has the ‘engine’ in place. His jumping just needs to be brushed up on but you really would expect to say that about any horse who has just made his debut. Generally now a 20 or 25/1 shot re him triumphing in the ‘Triumph’ but 33’s is still available in one place (Sporting Bet). I understand that the plan is to get Cosmeapolitan out again between Christmas and the New Year – either at Kempton or, once again, at Newbury.
Massively underwhelmed with him Barney, he just doesn't make a good shape at his hurdles for me and i thought he was in trouble at the last against what are modest horses. I don't think that run will give anyone sleepless nights that's for sure.
Yeah, it didn’t have me proclaiming him, quite yet, ‘the reincarnation of Pegasus’ nor, in fact, many other punters doing the same (hence you can still, in a place, get 33’s re him for the ‘Triumph’). But I did think it a satisfactory debut. Yes, his jumping needs to improve but there is no reason why this can’t be done. As I said above though I really loved the way he travelled and only a good horse can do that. Next time out, under a penalty, will obviously tell us a lot, lot, lot more. Re the way the race was run Cosmeapolitan and the eventual second, Fixed Rate, were 2 of the 3 animals up with the pace from some way out and think the 3rd, the who stayed on from the back when the heat was as good as over, was flattered by his proximity to them. Meanwhile, I wouldn’t call Fixed Rate ‘modest’. He was a dual winner across the Channel (including a race worth £25k) and his last pair of runs, in France, were at Listed level. I think Fixed Rate, myself, is one for the notebook and have jotted his moniker down accordingly. Ultimately, ‘Fred Winter’, perhaps?!? Will another horse this term get within 7 lengths of Cosmeapolitan?!? That’s something to ponder.
More likely to be a handicap around Towcester than the Fred Winter in my book. Time will tell. Some interesting market movers at Exeter. I won't burden my bets by putting them on here!!
Sad news about American jockey Garrett Gomez overnight. A troubled soul it seems. http://www.paulickreport.com/news/ray-s-paddock/jockey-garrett-gomez-dead-44/

Ran a cracker given her lack of experience. Is it just me or does the Honeyball yard struggle to get chasers to jump in general?
Certainly outran its price so not too disappointed with the info but sadly not quite good enough to make the paying places!
