Yorkshire National Day tomorrow and for my money KING FONTAINE 12-1 simply has to be backed. I dont think this horse has ever reached the heights he should have but he has been given a real chance by the handicapper tomorrow. He can jump well but has blotted his copybook several times in the past with sloppy jumping. If he gets it right tomorrow he really should win off this paltry mark!

At Kemptons evening meeting I will be having a dabble on DOWNRIGHT DIZZY 14-1 in the last. Has always looked to be needing a trip and the only time he faced 8f was on heavy going that he maybe didnt appreciate. He has a ridiculously low mark now and if handling the surface he could well spring a surprise at rewarding odds.

Lively Baron at 7s is my real NAP. I was at Sandown on Tingle Creek day and actually backed this guy in the lucky last. He idled all the way to the line and as such hasn't gone up nearly as much as he should have. I really think they'll want this one in the national sooner or later and for that he probably needs a couple of wins.

Desperate Dex for me, the rationale being that he ran a big race last time out against two very interesting horses in Arbor Supreme and Our Island, who then went on to finish 4th and 5th in the Welsh National (AS was well out of handicap at Chepstow too). The form therefore looks very solid and whilst he isn't necessarily improving at the grand old age of 13, he hasn't taken much racing in his career and I think he is still under the mark that he is capable of (probably half a stone under in my view) and I think conditions tomorrow will suit him perfectly. I took 9/1 EW.

That looks a very tricky race Nass. Plenty with a decent chance, including Chac Du Cadran, Cloudy Too, and Posh Bird. I could spend all day and still pick 3 that all end up unplaced. Can't fancy the fav (Pentiffic) and doubt it will end up fav.

Will be interesting to watch though.

AP makes a very rare trip to Catterick to ride two for Martin Keighley with the ride on Any Currency looking the primary booking. Should definitely run a good race but whether he wins or not is a different story in what looks a very competitive renewal. Not sure if I'll have a bet just yet

4 different selections so far in the North Yorkshire National, plus Ron has picked half the field <laugh> surely someone will have the winner!!

"And Desperate Dex takes it up with 100 yds to run and stays on dourly to score."

Or in Thommo style "I will leave that to the judge"

    Morning Nass BTW <ok>

Being a topical chap I'll nominate one in the North Yorkshire National who is "getting on in years" (cue McCririck) - Gidam Gidam won a class 2 handicap chase at Donny over 4 miles this time 3 years ago off a mark of 128 and was put up to 138 for the Grimthorpe where he failed to land a blow, and then down to 136 for the Scottish National where he was PU. He then had a long time off the track but contested 2 Hunter Chases last year where he finished 2nd to The Polomoche off 128 and was then pulled up at Leicester in a much better contest. He gets in today off 115 with the lass taking 7lbs off and, as the rank outsider of the field, I'm going for him to score for the older generation <ok>

Morning, all. Hope everyone well. Re yesterday’s racing King of Dudes was a lovely result but the run of Sun and Stars at Ludlow an hour later far less so. I would urge people though to keep this latter one in the old notebook as anyone can be allowed an off-day (may not have liked the ground) and the weight of money for him in the morning and on-course, against a Mr Henderson hot-pot, verifies how highly he is regarded. Hailing from a relatively unfashionable yard next time out he could be a very nice price.

    Onto today and I’ll nominate:

Sea Lord (2.45 Catterick Bridge) – this one was in awesome form on the Flat in 2010 winning 6 times – including a rich handicap at Newmarket’s July meeting under the lovely Amy Ryan and a Group 3, at Salisbury, for ‘King’ Kieren. After this though he went to Dubai and like so many horses, before him, proved disappointing in the old Desert. Now back on these shores he has been prepared for a NH campaign by old boy John Ferguson (in excellent form with 6 of his last 10 winners obliging) and Sea Lord today looks head and shoulders above his opponents here. Could prove a very decent novice hurdler this term – especially if his handler has worked his magic and returned him to his form of 2010.

Entitlement (5.45 Kempton Park) – what a lovely name for a filly by the way. And a very nicely bred one to boot as her dam was classy and her half-brother, Invermark, was a high class stayer who placed in a Gold Cup. Off just 59 this evening this filly really should oblige against some frankly modest opposition.

    Good luck, all.

    2.15 Catterick: LORD VILLEZ 14/1 e.w

I am reluctant to back Ferdy Murphy horses usually but one would think Lord Villez, who was beaten 6L over 4m last time out, would be pretty well primee for this sort of big race. I like Denis O'Regan too, therefore an each-way dabble seems very much value. Stamina-laden and im relatively good form, and at least fairly handicapped compared to some
