Good to see penalty decisions going the way of the 1st division clubs even then Am I right in thinking Rovers lost the replay 2-1 the scorers being Saunders for Liverpool and Saunders for Rovers. I know I was there for that match and thought we were robbed

Also seem to remember that people accused Jan Molby of being unfit and overweight because he never left the centre circle during the whole match

Will never forget the two Liverpool cup games. Atmosphere at Twerton, the build up and the excitement was tremendous but the replay at Anfield was something else. This was the first time I'd ever gone to one of the big Premier grounds. Caught a specially chartered train from Temple Meads to Liverpool, they transferred us to a fleet of double deck buses at Edge Hill and the Police escorted the buses to the ground. To walk around the outside of Anfield and see the Shankley gates with the candles burning in memory of the Hillsborough disaster was very poignant but when we got into the ground, the atmosphere took my breath away. We took well over 7000 fans there which was amazing for a midweek game and you had to hear the noise from the Gas to believe it! We outsang the Kop from start to finish especially when Carl Saunders put us ahead and I recall Devon White missing what seemed to be a relatively simple chance that would have put us 2 up and I think if that had gone in,we would have definitely beaten them. In the 2nd half,Liverpool were better and as soon as they brought on Steve McManaman, the game turned. We just couldn't cope with his pace and dribbling and he virtually beat us on his own,Liverpool eventually winning 2-1. We gave them a real fright with the Kop applauding Rovers off the field at the end and we eventually got home around 3.00am,totally drained but still buzzing from the occasion. I would go so far as to say the occassion easily matched our days at The Millenium and Wembley for excitement and atmosphere and for anyone that wasnt able to go to the match, the video of the game is well worth a watch. It was a memorable night in our history.

I was there for both games. I was just a kid though. I remember travelling up to Anfield on the coach and as the game finished and we returned to our coach, a few windows got smached by bricks and stones from Liverpool supporters. So we couldnt go anywhere and the police came and we all had to wait for a replacement coach, which if my memory is correct it didnt come until gone midnight. I had school the next day.
