What a day indeed! Happy memories and the road has continued upwards since then. I just remember that after the 3rd goal, the crowd really erupted, the tension went and "We are Southampton, we're Premier League" rang round the ground.
Seems like yesterday, remember strolling round the hallowed turf wondering if I was dreaming. I also half remember the lock-in at a pub in Shirley that same evening.
Was on a staff holiday in Lisbon...Brought about 10 of them to watch the match with me. They had as much enjoyment watching me be a nervous wreck in the lead up to the game as I had when we sealed victory. The relief was amazing. It seemed so close for so long but we had finally made it over the line. Unforgettable
Theres so many things to love about that video. But our Jose 'saying', right that's enough nervous faffing let's go and get promoted, wins the ball charges up the pitch beating 3 players and effectively setting up the crucial opening goal AND THEN, a couple of minutes later scoring a diving header himself. He's been a captain for us for a long time. Legend.
Interesting. My memory is that had we lost that day, West Ham would have been promoted and we would have been in the play-offs. But oh, what a day. I did actually weep. Pathetic, I know, but true.
