The first, are those from QPR The second, Reading Town, Thereafter those from Lancashire Who right now would go down, If time were called this very day And though that´s not the case, Survival at this late-ish stage For them seems hard to place, And as it is they need to win Three, while we lose the same, Just to draw level, and like all They´re running out of games, And Wigan who are currently The best placed of the three, Have FA Cup to think about As well as the league spree, While Reading, right now with no boss Are on a losing run, It´s hard to see that changing, with Man U and Arsenal to come, And QPR although they´ve turned Their form around of late, Play all the others at the foot Before the final date, And actually if they´re not safe Before May comes around, Their games in that month could just seal Their fate and send them down, So while we ourselves can do much Between this month and May, It´s not just immaterial Who others have to play. Hi RBF, again you are on the money, people forget that 9 points means they have to win three but we also have to lose three! I'm convinced we will be fine!
I don't think anyone is really disputing the safety of our position, I think its the managers way of thinking they are taking umbrage with.
And actually Dave, if you take the Man City game out of the equation, we´ve got a reasonably comfortable run in, compared to say, Reading and QPR, and I refuse to believe that our fate will hang on getting a result at the Etihad.
Speaking for myself carrabuh, if the manager´s way of thinking keeps us up that´s fine by me, and I´d rather he did that than suddenly change his way of thinking, so that we risk finding ourselves in a less enviable position.
For us to need a result from the last game would require a truly bizarre final run in by several teams. For us to not win any of the next eight and only gain three draws .Our relegation odds are 16/1!
I don't see why Hughton can't sort that out over the summer. There's plenty of time to improve the squad.
Exactly, do we really want to take the chance that we'll bounce straight back if relegated. What would happen if we didn't get promotion in the first couple of seasons? The gulf financially would get so big that even if we were to make it back to the PL we wouldn't be able to compete. Hell, it's hard enough now. What would happen to the scouting network, the acadamy, ground improvents / expansion. Let's get established as a PL team, and then the benefits will come.
CH has himself described it as 'achieving a balance' and I think that's what it's about. Carrabuh, I think you and others are right in saying that there isn't enough movement in midfield and attack. This was suddenly evident in the last 20 minutes against Everton and made all the difference when both Snodgrass and Martin switched to the left flank and combined to deliver the ball for the winning goal. City should see this season out and then strengthen in the summer to hopefully become a fully fledged PL team with an effective balance between defence and attack. That's what I'd like to see, anyway.
The Sunderland game is going to be a big one, there is plenty of games to go but I would like to see a result out of this one. I was hoping we could pick off the clubs nearby us before they really put their foot down and try to dig themselves out of a potential relegation battle.
Hi bors, our task this season is a simple one: maintain our current PL status. Then the merry-go-round recommences next season but with one major difference. CH will be able to select a team of his own choosing and not rely on the mainly previous manager's squad. As has been mentioned on another thread, players CH has brought in have improved our defensive ability. Bunn, Basssong, Turner, Gariddo and Whittaker have bolstered that defence. Tettey has made his mark in the midfield. Up front Kamara, and Becchio have yet to have a sustained run in the team, so as yet are an unknown quality. Snoddy has settled into the pace of the PL and looks to be capable of holding his place. As Carrabuh has stated, we need a bit of quality to increase our potential to become a stable PL side. If we can survive this season then we will be in a better financial position to realise his hopes. I say "If" It does not do to count your chickens before they hatch, certainly if you are a Norwich fan, have forgotten the countless times on the last day of the season our hopes have been dashed with relegation. One point to remember is we have had to play most of our games without our number one keeper, and we have still kept out of the relegation zone. Full marks to the manager and his team for that despite the manner is which that has been achieved. Another point to remember is that the manager has to decide who he will be retaining and who will be leaving our club at the end of the season; always a difficult time when old colleagues seek pastures anew. Hopefully we don't have a repeat of the fiasco when Daren Huckerby was given his marching orders by Roeder. All this of course providing our manager doesn't say he is happy at the club, gets on well with the fans and players !!! RBF bor, as usual you have summarised our position perfectly. I much prefer your poetic licence to your prose LOL. Regards to Muttley.
