I for one am tired of threads going off topic, but it may be that I am in a minority (One definition of madness is being in a minority of one!) So maybe its time to find out?

Personally I think if we stop them going off topic specific to the thread title then this board will lose 95% of it's entertainment, which is already dropping by the day.

This isnt a structured debating lecture, it's a discussion and entertainment medium.

It is only annoying to me on the football threads when some people are having a good discussion on topic and others are just ****ing about as usual

Certain football threads are generally kept on topic, they're the ones stickied at the top.

Some others, we trim, depending on what's taking it off topic, sometimes deleting the dross, other times splitting it into two threads, although one or two don't like that either.

At the end of the day, it's a community board, a general conversation will tend to drift all over the place. How many times are you chatting, only for someone to say "how did we get onto that"?

Actually dutch, you only start deleting 'dross' when someone star making a fool out of you or your mates.

And leaving that behind and moving to more pressing matters, where the **** is stewey?

MIA... Last seen throwing bricks at Belgians in Lokeren.

Actually Hat, that's your usual standard of bulls**t and bollocks, especially given a fair few of the ones a few got giddy about, were actually **** all to do with me. <laugh>

You need to up your act, you're getting tired and stale. <ok>

Be careful what you wish for, the consequences of accidents can be dire and long lasting, as your parents have found to their cost.

Fair play though, this thread drift is at your usual low standard. As I said, you need to rethink as you're getting tired and stale.

    Conversations veer off topic.

Forum threads are a type of conversation.

Deliberately changing the subject I'd call foul on all the time, but conversations naturally going off in different directions - well, it's what happens. Who cares? It doesn't stop anyone coming back ON topic.

I think much of the tedious drift does tend to be the same individuals, other topic drifts can often lead to some interesting debates on some wide ranging subjects.

I'd agree with that, the problem is that calling foul and upsetting the 'game' sets off it's own dull chain reaction.

I don't think you can halt the natural evolution of a conversation between numerous participant.

And why would you? It's just one of those things.

Now, what's everyone's favourite type of Apple? I like Braeburn.

I actually ate an apple from my apple tree for the first time yesterday. I'm thinking of making cider next summer but don't know how many apples I'd need?

I don't actually like cider so thinking about it, it's a bit of a daft idea.

What kind of apples does thou apple tree produce?

What kind of kitchen qualities does thou lady indoors possess?

The possibilities are endless, apple pie, apple crumble, apple strudel, apple sauce with pork, toffee apples...

You need a sour apple for cider I believe.

    And for cooking too.

Hijacking of threads that are not particularly popular with certain groups and deliberately diverting off at a tangent is a particularly irritating practice, is quite commonplace and should be subject to some action by the moderators. The aforementioned practice probably accounts for one reason why the views on here are somewhat biased, people with differing outlooks being deterred from posting.

I haven't the faintest idea regarding what type of apples they are.

My orchard does yield a lot though.

Most have been nibbled by all sorts of creatures. Squirrels , foxes, badgers and the like I dare say.

I just lob in my brown bin or sometimes get Charles, my pooch, to chase after them.

The apples that is, not the foxes and badgers.

I was convinced for years that I didn't like Cider and then decided to give it another go a couple of years ago and persevered for a bit and now love it. I really like trying out all of the different options available and even like some of the additional fruit flavours.
