Can we calm down on thread merging please. I started a specific thread asking what changed tonight's game which then got mashed into around 4 other threads which now no longer read correctly and I've had to trawl through loads on my phone to see what people had responded so I could find out. A bit of thread merging is fine but ha'way! Am I the only one not wanting so much thread merging?
I don't want it at all. The mod in question seems to be following the scums board. And now because I question it I'm a whining little girl!!!!!!!!! Talk about power going to someones head!
I think the thread merging is good once the threads have quietened down a little but while still being posted upon should probably be left.
Agreed I log in to see what's new for the day, and all the threads at the top were started ages ago, and are loads of pages long
That was my point the other day, If I hadn't posted in the thread I was looking for I wouldn't have found it ever!
Know where you are all coming from lads, we'll try and get some guidelines sorted for thread merging.
fine. is it not useful when another link comes up, as it has recently, when we have already researched said player. why claw it all up again again when we have already done it a month ago? attach new thread to original and all the info is there
Like I said before merging should be a last resort. Like when MON was sacked and multiple threads were made at the same time and the ones who posted the later ones asked for the threads to be merged. The above is acceptable. Merging threads whilst conversations are going on just makes nonsense of the threads. Someone arbitrarily deciding which threads to merge should be avoided at all costs. You can't go back to a conversation you were enjoying reading as you have no way to find the thread. In closing just stop merging threads unless the OP asks for it to be merged.
Thats all well and good if you know where the thread went, but I and other posters would prefer to go back to a thread we were reading and remembered the title of. You're talking as if there's thousands of new posts a day!
so whats the time delay on these things then? 1 day? why lose the info people have taken the time to find
You're talking as if what you're doing is right! It isn't! Why merge at all? If I'm getting you right you are saying threads started weeks before on the same subject should have priority over newer threads? Why? IF someone thinks something in the previous post is relevant they can paste a link to it into the new conversation can't they? Being a moderator isn't about playing with the toys in the background, it is supposed to be about moderating any abuse, threats of violence or racism imho. Up to now we have done a pretty good job of this in self moderation, unlike the stasis on the Scum board you seem to want to emulate.
Ok so what you are saying is you all would rather have a post linked to the original info within the current thread rather than a merge? Clarence
My biggest problem with this is when people take it off topic, ie banter on gingers or similar, the post gets lost, you keep thinking something new is happening and it's banter. I did one last week re Danny rose scoring a belter and how well spurs were playing, yeh reference to signing him further doubtful but dumped and lost in a historic rosé thread. Just stop it you'll kill the board, sick of trawling through 8 pages for something that might of happened today!!! Whinge over, tough night tonight but in the draw, phewww
To be fair there wouldn't be any thread merging full stop if people could be arsed to look down the thread list to see if it's been done. One extreme to the other. Happy medium please.
Threads a plenty At the end of the day i love this place and whatever can attract visitors to sign up and post is all i want. This time last year we struggled to have 100 views on a thread, 1 year on we have nearly 5000 on the s'ton one. We are trying very hard here. I'll stop my merging no probs
Purely for an example, one post wrecked by pics n quips of absolutely anybody with the auld strawberry blonde. Sure people doing there best, but when your reading about huddlestone from 2012, not same thread nor the relevance to now, again for example.
On the transfer stuff, if someone has a new development leave it as a new thread please. I am having to look at the number of posts on an old thred to guess if there is an update and then trawl through what my be off topic banter just to see If there is any update and there isn't and tonight's threads in my opinion all though covering the match were specific threads with different angles. Nothing against anyone trying their best but I had no problems with new threads? Others do, Bri sometimes you type in the heat of the moment without checking and others may have posted the same thing. Again if the same bit of news has been posted twice then a merge is fine but not these mammoth threads please. No intent to offend anyone okay?
