Shocking performance tonight again, carrying too much deadwood, need to sell off the dross and start revamping this team. Don't know whether it's Klopp or Fsg but this squad needs improving.
One or the other (or both) decided to back Salah over Mane with the contract offers without realising who was responsible for most of Salah's goals by assisting the assister or pulling defenders away. Now Mane is rocking the Bundesliga and Salah is struggling.
For anyone watching the second half of last season it should have been obvious that Mane was performing the better of the two this year. Salah is still a great attacker, but he's no longer a challenger for best in the world and hasn't been for over six months.
Only issue is it makes no difference because mane told lfc he wanted to leave for a new challenge at the start of last season so had nothing to do with contract offers or wanting to keep Salah over mane.
Also mane has 3 goals in 3 games (including 2 in a 7-1 win). Salah has 2 goals 1 assist in 3 games. Wouldn’t say mane is really ‘rocking’ the league
Unfair comparison as Mane is operating in a less competitive league. Having said that I feel we missed Mane’s dynamism and physicality at the front especially when pressing. And we missed Nunez too. A forward lineup of Nunez, Salah, Jota and Diaz is as good as any in the premiership. A straightforward win against Bournemouth will kick start our season. Despite all the gloom we are only 5 points from City.
It does seem like we're back to where we were before Salah joined. We find it so hard to break teams down and score goals, but leak goals so easily. Maybe things will change when Nunez is back and gets a feel for the PL, but it's obvious that midfield has been the problem for a while. I probably sound like a broken record on this, but we need to utilise Diaz's strengths in dangerous areas more, like we did last season.
The lack of investment in the squad is finally catching up with us - and when I say investment, I mean in terms of finances but also Klopp potentially being the one to not sign off on players. We have world class players who are getting older, we have injury prone players who are unreliable, and we 'trusted lieutenants' who are liabilities but Klopp has too much loyalty to. We should have been spending from a position of strength. But now, it seems like we need quite a few changes to back to where we need to be.
We also ****ed up preseason by going on a money making two game tour 3 days into preseason and effectively lost 2 weeks of a 4 week preseason. Half the injuries related directly to that tour. Let's be clear. We all agree we need to buy cms but I think we all know we won't.
Yeah, I'm pissed off. Such a poor start and it's going to take an awful lot for us to sort this **** out. We'e behind the likes of Leeds, Forest, Brentford, and even united. The only saving grace is we're still above the Ev! If we go down they're coming down with us. It's all very well saying oh it's making the league more competitive and it's great, but we've gone from a quad-competing side who lost the title by 1 point to mid-team mediocrity and possible relegation fodder and it feels ****e.
Something is not right in the background - why do the players look so tired and leggy? - why do we already have so many injuries? There are rumours that the new Zone7 software that we're using is causing some issues - for those who don't know, we started using Zone 7 around Jan this year and is a tool / algorithm which predicts injuries and helps to manage mins of players. Apparently, it's the reason why Nat was chosen ahead of Joe vs Palace and why Fab was dropped for Hendo vs United. Either way, there is a disconnect between the 1st team management and the medical dept.
****ing hell, you can't use computer software and algorithms to determine injuries, that's bloody bizarre! There's also another theory, that the players are pissed off because of Salah's increase in salary. VVD and Trrent have been off for months and last night tensions were evident when Milner laid into VVD. I'm not sure it's tiredness, I think they're disinterested
Tbf, it worked pretty well last season. But yeah, maybe we're putting too much faith in the system. I wonder who lays into Milner and Henderson for their sh*T performances.
It would be interesting to know who has the final say. Of course this isn't the first season potentially wrecked by multiple injuries.
I believe Michael Edwards was the one who brought it to Liverpool. But yeah would be interesting to see how much trust they're putting into it.
