Well another away game without defeat, albeit we sounded as though we should of won the game. I've seen the highlights, too soft goals for Fleetwood but a great finish by Kedwell! It also appeared that Adam Birchall had a good game which is pleasing as other than Kedwell and Burton we have no other strikers! We move onto tomorrow's huge match against Rotherham, a match I believe that if we win we are able to get promoted on Saturday against Torquay, still one game at a time! I'm not going to lie, I'm incredibly nervous about tomorrow's game despite the fact that we're ten points clear of fourth. The team I'm going to go for is, : Nelson, Fish, Barrett, Legge, Martin, Gregory, Robinson, Whelpdale, Allen, Burton, Kedwell. Subs: Forecast, Davies, Birchall, Weston, East, Dack (hopefully will be fit), Lee (hopefully will recover from illness). I'm going to go for a 1 0 Gillingham win, Deon Burton, 94th minute, we all start hugging each other and giving it large to Evans! Now wouldn't that be a wonderful outcome?! Up the Gills, almost there, lets hope Saturday is the day we secure promotion back to league one!
Rotherham will be a tough nut and I would expect them to play on our turf as we do away ourselves. We want to get a good start and keep the pressure on them for 96 minutes. We have the squad, the ability to change shape and direction. I expect Kedwell will run himself into the ground again and Whelps is overdue for a stormer.....as is Lee (if he plays) ......the back line pretty much takes care of itself and we'll have a good crowd today, hopefully in a festive mood. Roll on 5pm and three points please.
Something I would like to see is Weston being pushed into the centre with Martin given the role of an attacking full back - but will that make us vulnerable against a side like Rotherham? If it does open us up to vulnerability then I would prefer to see Lee down the left, especially if the visitors have any strength in that department. I expect Lee will be playing as the temperament of this game will require his pitbull spirit BUT the winner of this game will be the one that can avoid getting a player sent off, so a tough ask at the same time for Lee to keep his head firmly placed on his shoulders. Legge is going to be a very busy lad today and Nelson will need to be at his best.
Unfortunately Birchall did not have that good a game. He tried hard, but too often failed to read the play, and was therefore not in the right place at the right time which meant that he was simply unable to contribute effectively. The one very notable exception was of course the back-heel to Kedwell for the first goal, which did show that there obviously a bit of quality there, but on the whole when he did get the ball he was no better than OK - no major mistakes but no other truly telling passes or shots, and I really can't see him being with us next season.
