Positives: Tactically astute. Good, proactive use of substitutions. Clearly wants to play football the 'right way'. I sat behind the dug outs v Colchester, and liked the way he constantly cajoled our keeper and back 4 to pass the ball out along the deck. Quite a contrast to a recent predecessor. I also like his passion, and the way he would not take any s**t off that arrogant bald German midget Rosler at full time on Saturday. Also, I liked the way he applauded the CE when we began to sing "Bob Peeters Red and White Army". Finally - a huge well done to Bob for NOT granting the Covered End its wish to perform a tunnel jump on Saturday. We have had quite enough of that, thanks Negatives: None yet apparent. We might just have found a decent manager here
All of the above BUT I would like to see how he handles a defeat, will he tiny tinker? Will he panic?, will he keep faith? I don't like liking managers, they come and go to readily. He lacks the clean shirt of a parky and the ghetto clobber of a Powell tho.
Also like how he wont take any rubbish from players... You dont want to play for Charlton (Reza Ghoochanniejad am talking to you) then your off... Agree with Typical though... I always have to wait and see how good a Manager is going to be once: (1) - How we come back from a defeat (2) - How he does if we were to lose a handful of games (Losing one can be handled but when you go on a bad run its getting the players confidence back) (3) - How well he does during a match if we're losing (Alright being ahead or drawing a match but can he make the changes to haul us back into a game we're losing)
My only negative is that we have been poor for the first 20 minutes of all 3 games so far. Don't know what's going on in the dressing room or warm up, but it's not working. Bizarrely, first 20 minutes of the 2nd half is when we've been at our best, so he obviously knows what to do at half-time. Also, it's a minor gripe, and it's Rosler so I don't mind, but he had no reason to go charging down to celebrate in front of the away coaches. Fair enough if we'd scored at the Covered End, but he actually went away from the celebration?! Overall, a hugely positive start with positive substitutions in both this and the Colchester game which are good signs.
Seems passionate, and looks to know what he's doing. But yes, his reaction to a loss will be the biggest test for him, but if he does continue like he's started I will have to take back my statement that he'd be gone by November.
Love the passion, but as mentioned we will see how he handles a/run of defeats. He still needs to find his best eleven, as I don't foresee Cousins out wide and JJ in the middle being first choice for the season. But he has made it work thus far which deserves huge credit. Negative - he didn't hit Rosler.
I think Valley Redemption nailed it above. A manager that can turn players around at half time or a quick gee up or subtle tactical repositioning is a real find. I think I need to look at him again in another ten games. I seem for remember Powell won his first five games, then lost the next six....
