Well, now that I've had a night of sleep since Lutongate I feel I can look back at in a more considered way. The most worrying thing is, that for the third game in a row we did neither score or remotely look close to scoring. Whilst against Liverpool or Newcastle, we could have had Messi playing for us and not scored, today I felt it was as much the striker's fault as the midfield because they did actually see some of the ball against a non-league outfit and it's no surprise that we looked SO much more dangerous when Holt came on. I'm really not convinced that with the way we play, Jackson or Kane are good enough. Morison might have been more effective (Although some fans would of literally exploded) but it is plainly clear we need another decent striker. The thing was, that Luton didn't really ride their luck in this tie. Aside from two very good saves from their 'keeper, an escape from IMO what was a penalty and Leon Barnett hitting the post we did not really threaten them at all. Without wanting to sound too condescending, Luton had the audacity to pressure us at home and reaped the rewards for it. This leads me onto the next point; When we got tonked by Liverpool, they played very high pressure, very high up the pitch and we just gave them the ball back. I have no doubt that this is why Luton played the same way, having seen it work so well for Liverpool, and no doubt AVB will use the same tactic when his Spurs side turn up on Wednesday having seen us be had by a non-league team on our own turf. We MUST increase the intensity of the passing and shift the ball around quickly to have any chance of any sort of result against Spurs. Hoolahan must play, and if he has anything less then a great game, we will lose again probably. The only player who deserves to keep his starting place from the Luton game is Russell Martin. Hughton has a dilemma if he picks him or Whittaker, either way, playing against Gareth Bale will be a tough night. We will at least have Snodgrass, Johnson, Tettey, Pilkington, Turner and Bassong for Spurs so it hopefully won't be so terrible as I fear. We need to put a positive performance in vs Spurs and then take something from Loftus Road.
