One of the positive things that came out of todays performance for me was that of young Whickham. Now I fully appreciate he was a wee bit ball greedy today, especially when he had options to square the ball. But other than that, I thought he showed hunger and determination and well worth a punt in the coming games I feel. Very impressed too by our Argie Centre Half. Looked very composed.

    Agree completely

Would of gave Vergini/Giaccherini motm until the wonder goal
Wickham was greedy but at least showed what he is capable of breaking away from 2 players

He looked lively which is the least you expect. He should be hungry. Missed a golden opportunity to play someone in, Borini I think. Simplest of passes. That worried me slightly as it was a no brainer what to do with the ball. Don't need players that are so over committed to proving a personal point that they don't think for the team. That said it was only half an hour so I'll take both positives and negative with a pinch of salt and look forward to seeing his next appearance when I can start building a proper opinion. But like Jozy he needs time. He's relatively inexperienced in the premiership. The championship and Shef weds direct 442 is a million miles from the level of the Prem. Connor needs our patients imo

Thing is Bri, he'd just run 60 yards with the ball outpacing 2 and outskilling another 2! Altidore wouldn't have beaten the first one!! At the end of the day he's a striker who looked like he wanted to score! No problem with that imo

It half an hour against a tired Southampton mate. Why build the lad up like that? This is what I mean about expecting too much. He also failed to play the right ball almost every time he had it because he was hell bent on playing for himself and not the team. It's about a balanced view, yes he looked lively, hungry and sharp, but plenty of negatives came from that half hour which is precisely why we shouldn't pile expectation on him because he's achieved nothing. He certainly hasn't nailed that spot for his own. I think Poyet will see it the same and start with Jozy next match and keep working on Connors game and introduce him gradually and develop the lad properly like no manager has bothered to do yet. You might be happy with the Bruce/MoN approach of shove him straight in for a couple of games then when he doesn't deliver the goods drop him off the face of the earth, but I'm not.

First 2 or 3 lines of what you say is key Funk. He should be hungry and running and fighting for everything. This is his chance.

Got to disagree Biffa. To me he's just not got that something that marks the big difference between a PL player and a Championship player.

For me personally, I just think he takes forever to make a decision, and that will prove his downfall.

I was maybe watching a different game here but I didn't see anything to suggest a change in my opinion that he isn't good enough for where we wanna go, there was a shooting chance he was running onto and he could have hit it 3 times in the time he took, it was blocked.

Love the lad to prove me wrong, but I just don't think he has it.

At the game today I thought that Catts & Giacherrini were both brilliant Garndner also had a great game. That Argentinian Verini look half decent.

Decision making is often something that comes with time. Take Ronaldo at Man U for instance. But then you also have Nani.

He's too young to give up on imo. He could go either way though/

No mate, if he ever is gonna make an impact it will be off the bench.

I'd start Scocco for sure though, Arsenal's CB's, and I include the excellent Koscielny, hate runners.

You think he'll be ready fitness wise? I like what I saw though. Great movement.

He should be able to manage an hour mate, he hasn't been injured, and has been based in a very fast paced league, he shouldn't be miles off.

Good summary, I though Connor will have given Gus a decision to make, he needs games, but we are in a tricky situation in that every league game is a must win, if we are to climb out of the bottom three. I thought our new centre half looks composed, I would like to see him with Brown and give O'shea a rest.
