'He's not ready for the first team squad' - well - number one we signed him last season so he's not really an 'academy product' - number two - every player we've brought through who has gone onto great things has been ready for the first team squad at 18 or earlier
Usually a center back won't develop until he's slightly older, much like goalies which is why I still have hopes for the likes of Smith and to a lesser extent Ainsley. Hampy, whatever you say about Jewell, he can certainly pick out a good young player, just look at the likes of Cresswell, and I'm sure much of his squad at Wigan and Bradford. Really don't see how anyone could put a negative spin on this, at least Jewell's aware of the development of young players at the club!
