Released West Ham midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger wants to return to former club Aston Villa. The Germany international is a free agent after his contract with the Hammers came to an end after their relegation to the Championship. Hitzlsperger is reported to want an immediate return to the Premier League and wants a comeback to Villa Park. The 29-year-old left Villa six years ago saying he would "one day like to return to the club". A source close to Hitzlsperger told Press Association Sport: "Thomas wants to go back to Villa. He enjoyed some great times there." The ex-Bayern Munich youth player is also a target for Fulham, Blackburn and Stoke, who has been capped more than 50 times for his country. Nicknamed 'Der Hammer' for his powerful long-range shooting and spectacular goals, he was a popular player among Villa fans.
