I'm highlighting the 9/1 currently available on Sporting Bet for Discourse in the 1000 Guineas. Like her fancied stablemate, Lyric Of Light, she is unbeaten and will head straight to Newmarket without a preparatory run. Sheikh Mohammed/Godolphin have a fantastic record in the race, and I fully expect Frankie Dettori to ride her. Ante-post is always a risk, but 9/1 will look very big if she turns up fit and well for the first fillies' Classic. After beating her odds on stablemate, Gamilati, on her debut, she then sauntered home in the Sweet Solera Stakes. Watch the race and judge for yourself. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZQfy_sszEo
Not known for having his three-year-old's primed for the very early stages of the season, it's worth bearing in mind that Stoute has won this Classic before, with Russian Rhythm in 2003. So if shes entered he must think she has a chance Her sire, Medicean (also trained by Stoute) didn't see the racecourse until he was three, and family member Notnowcato didn't hit his straps until later in his career, so there is every reason to believe that she will only start to blossom this year. It's also not unreasonable to expect all of the stable's runners to improve on what they achieved last season as there was evidently something wrong in the yard.
The pick of the Godolphin team for me and 9/1 will definitely be a value call if she turns up 100% as she'll be much shorter on the day. I just wonder if something might just have the turn of foot to skip clear before Discourse stays on. I'd be interested in her for the Oaks- I'm not sure about the pedigree but looking at her scope and action, I think she'll stay 10f so theres a chance of an Oaks appearance IMO.
One I really like is WADING have a look at the way she goes on at the line when beating Pimpernel last October. http://horses.sportinglife.com/Video/Racing/
Can't see Stoute's winning it... Fancy La Collina myself ran credible races in Ireland and I've been told she makes the trip over the water for this... 20/1 ew
Have been backing Maybe for the 1000 guineas for some time now. Said to Famous she looked special after her debut. Hoping she has trained on as I have several bets at double figure odds for her. Posted on here on some thread while she was still big prices. ELUSIVE KATE looked good at Longchamp and is my idea of a danger at a big price (currently 20/1)
If you ignore Best Terms last run, the 30's available on Betfair seem a good price. I also like Wading and Discourse as two of the less exposed types: Maybe appears to have the better of the more exposed runners and seems a fair favourite, but 4/1 on Betfair is no price for a horse who hasn't run yet this season.
