"Rodgers will not sacrifice cup success for Premier League survival as the top-flight newcomers want to push on all fronts." "We spoke about our objectives in pre-season and the cups are something we want to do well in - and we feel we can." "We want to progress whether it is in the Premier League, FA Cup or Carling Cup."
Rodgers always says this about cup competitions, including the standard "I'll always put out a team that is capable of winning." He has to make the right noises, but the reality is that his priority is keeping us up regardless of what he says. I've no problem with that.
His actions though last year where completely opposite, we fielded a below par team against Orient, and he will do the same this year, so Jager will be happy I'm afraid, though I wont be!................. please log in to view this image
Don't like the fact that Williams is playing; he should be rested. Also Allen is playing, which might mean he won't start on Saturday.
HTR & Dragonphil - yes, you're probably right. Ok to play weaker team against Shrewsbury but id we get to last 8 he may put out a stronger team. That's what I'm hoping anyway.
The strength of the team would probably be decided by the quality of the opponents but seeing as we're playing eight less league games this season i don't see the problem with playing strength teams in the cup competitions.
Nine changes for the game, so that leaves 2 from the last game ! Think Brendan agreed that cup games are not important!
And casual fan, why would it make me sick? Listen I give an opinion and backed it up with an argument that our last 3 managers have not taken cups seriously! Now don't have a cheap dig, particularly when you are wrong !
jager there is a very strong side out there with a very strong bench...your wrong mate brendan stated he wants to go for everything this season and that is the right attitude to take....
well after that result it was a team that was clearly not capable of winning. we couldn't even score a goal for ourselves. i bought into the " we want to win" idea after the posh game last season. then wasted my time and money going to wigan. so i didn't bother with the orient game and took my family on the balmoral over to ilfracombe today instead of wasting money on a pointless trip to shrewsbury. don't get me wrong, i'm not knocking the swans for tonights failure. the prem is way too important this season. and getting to it last season. it's just a shame that the fans get mugged into going all that way and spending hard earned money on a game that was secretly a no hoper from the start. i could be wrong, but that's how i see it.
It was something that I expected, I think Rodgers will take the FA cup more seriously though, but at the end of the day we are in our first year in the Prem, and that will take all our energy, so needs must aye!!................. please log in to view this image Is it me or is this Jager stroppy these days!......................... please log in to view this image
Just meant it would make you sick because you wanted Swans to lose. But as it turns out they did lose, so you must be happy now. Anyway, jut a bit of banter, so don't take it seriously. I'm already over it. I just hope it doesn't affect their confidence for the next match. Swans still haven't scored this season.
brendan did'nt lie to keep anyone happy!! did you see the side we put out? 2 youngster's and the rest experienced first teamer's, and we finished with one youngster, it's a f***ing disgrace, and that's putting it mildly.
You are putting to much on this game, it's not a disgrace at all so stop being so emotional about it ffs
jager, did you travel to shrewsbury last night? think of the people who did. i bet not many of those would agree with you.
Sorry Jager, but you're wrong on this. Mate of mine went up along with over 600 others. Brendan will be the first to tell them they deserved better. Like most Jacks we're used to losing to 'lesser' clubs, that's the magic of cup competitions, but a lack of effort and an apparent 'couldn't care less' attitude is unforgiveable. We were appalling.
We had enough fire power on the field to start the game and certainly after the substitutions to score goals and win a match against a lower division side. The fact that we didn't because of effort or desire is unforgiveable. When you go to work, you go to work, and in this line of work, it means you go to win and you have to carry the mental attitude onto the field to make that happen.
