Was watching my league 1 wining DVD and enjoyed viewing the highlights of the game at Charlton. What was most impressive was the display by Fraser Forster. Also saw him playing against Rangers yesterday.

Bet you know what is coming now??

For me Ruddy has improved but I still have my niggling doubts. I would love to see Forster back as I see him to be a far better GK.

Parking that comment to one side, would there be a case for another GK at least to give some more competition? Our lack of a clean sheet does raise concerns about our defensive capabilities and keeping goal. Defenders and GK for me Mr.Lambert in January!

Thoughts (please remember this is just my point of view!)? <party>

I'm not unhappy with Ruddy. I believe the tendency for keepers to make mistakes has increased over the years and their ability on crosses is in question. Forster got some real stick when he first joined us and made one howler of course but by the end of that seeason, he was responsible for us winning important games. I remember being at Swindon and the save he made in the last minutes was as good as I've ever seen, Banks included. And before us he'd been on loan to smaller clubs. And we wondered why NUFC didn't want him. But having seen Krul I can see why. He has been along with Bale my Prem player of the season. And I watch most games thanks to Sky.
I don't think Ruddy is quite as good as him but thats not going to improve his performance or bring Forster back. We have to get behind him and know full well he will make errors. Just like Whitbread, De Laet and company have and will. He's our number one and I don't think it would be a problem for Rudd to step in should Ruddy have a series of howlers. He would'nt be on the bench if he wasn't up to it.

Thanks Redruth. Agree with you comments. Superman respect yours but do disagree.

surgeryman, this isn't the first time (and no doubt won't be the last) that you brought up that you don't really rate ruddy but do rate forster. i simply cannot fathom for one minute what you can possibly base this on. it certainly can't be performance based so please do explain...

    Agreed.

No disrespect surgeryman, but I simply do not understand your comments. Ruddy has been fantastic this season, and in a league considerably better than both the SPL and League One. Forster was good, but not 'Ruddy' good )if you'll excuse the pun :D ).

I think Forster was more impressive than Ruddy, although that is not to say he is better.

The saves he made were more asthetically pleasing, but I think his basics weren't as sound as Ruddy.

I think there isn't a huge amount to chose between them, it's just nice that Ruddy is ours, whereas we always knew Fraser would be heading back home. I'd happily have either in goal, but being as we already have Ruddy, I wouldn't swap him.

Disjointed I know, but does that make sense?

i see what you're saying! not easy to word it though <laugh>

maybe he left a good lasting feeling with fans because he did so well for us in such a short space of time. certainly i was impressed with forster and wouldn't have been against us signing him before ruddy turned up. but lets not forget he did well in league one - its just nowhere near the same level as ruddy is playing at today and at the back of everyones mind would always have been his problems with his kicking and it is something that still hasn't improved by the looks of things north of the border.

Listening to "talk....." earlier and they did bring up a very good valid point about this article!

Stockdale has conceded 12 goals in 2 games this season and not ONE was his fault, 5 against man u and 7 against P'boro... does this make him a bad goalkeeper, not atall!

What im getting at is that not having a clean sheet is not ruddy's fault, its as a collective unit. Ruddy has proberbly saved more points for us than conceded points. You have to remeber that clean sheets were a problem to come by proberbly since lamberts reign began so how will evaperate in the hardest league in the world!!?? Changing ruddy with a keeper that is probebrly just about the same in quality is not going to stop that leaky defence!

We went up last time, with if i remeber 18/19 clean sheets with green in goal. We brought in thomas helveg, a top european defender coming to the end of his career and look where that got us...

We dont need a new keeper, we dont need any more CB's. We need cover in the positions where were lacking for cover and improvements in midfield and another striker!

When I am at the game super he just does not fill me with confidence at all. I think he is weak at his near post, especially his right. A lot of goals conceded I feel he could have done a lot better. Everton for example, where he had a good game but for me should have got to that ball. Blackburns 2nd and 3rd also. I also think he should have done better with the first goal at Wolves (look at Tierney if you see a video) and Bales first.

I do not think he dominates his defence (although you may have a better view of that from where you sit) and going from crosses is mixed.

His distribution is decent in his favour.

There are better keepers out there for me. I'd have Green back any day or someone like Speroni from Palace. Sorry mate but Forster is better in my book. We will have to agree to disagree on this one.

If we stay in the Prem , then we must look at improving in all areas and not be sentimental about it. If a better keeper comes up we should go for it in my book.

    He has improved

Surgery, is this the same John Ruddy were talking about, the one that alot of people think should get a chance at playing for england!!??

Why would you have green back, that was what i was trying to say in my last post... Its not just about the keeper!
