Here is my prediction of Paul Merson's prediction for our game at Wolves this weekend.

"After another very lucky win against a really poor Blackburn team, would you believe it Newcastle United (or Northern Monkeys, as I like to call them............what do you mean I can't say that?) are unbelieveably 4th in the table.

Would you Adam and Eve it!!

Anyway, that bloke Cabbie, or whatever his name is, showed on Saturday that his previous good performances were just luck and he has not got what it takes for the Premiership, but with Newcastle's lack of any other midfielders after getting rid of their best ever players, Nolan and Barton, they are just going to have to stick with him.

I know Ba scored a Hatrick, (lads, lads, I've managed to say someone's name right!!) on Saturday, but if he hadn't, they would have lost 1-0 to a really poor Blackburn side. He was very lucky with his first goal. Another 3 feet to the right and he would have hit the beans on toast!! And what was his celebration all about? What's wrong with pretending to neck pints of lager as your goalscoring celebration?

If it hadn't been for a poor Blackburn side going down to 10 men, the away side would have left with all 3 points from a match that they dominated. Did I mention that they were poor?

As so many of Newcastle's new signings are French and can't speak English like you and me, they can't understand each other. So no wonder they aren't playing well. And talking of Frenchies, Pardrew will probably stick with playing that Ovaltine fella on the right and that other French geezer, that Guti....Gurthi................Gurti-Hairy bloke on the left. And I don't know why he persists with his centre back pairing, no wonder they have let in so many goals this season

So Newcastle have been really, really lucky and have played some crap teams, and STILL couldn't win every game.

As for Wolves, I know that they lost 3-0 to QPR in their last home game but I really like Mick McCartney, (he is one of the few people that I can say has got a worse boat race than me) and I don't like Newcastle, so I reckon 14-1. (Oh sorry, that's the odds on my bet in the 11.15 at Epsom.............Charlie, any chance of a sub until payday?)"

Who could make predictions like this:

Everton vs Liverpool: 0-3

David Moyes has worked miracles at Everton but even he knows he cannot conjure a result from this fixture against an inform and resurgent Liverpool team led by Kenny Dalglish who dominated a potentially hard match against a robust Wolves squad last weekend. With the re-emergence of the talismanic Gerrard this game has a Liverpool victory written all over it.

Aston Villa vs Wigan: 0-0

Villa’s mighty unbeaten run has been impressive this season and I can see this run extending against an out of form Wigan team. Neither team has faced the resurgent Liverpool squad led by Kenny Dalglish and this may be just reason for the run if wins that Villa have put together. Wigan will struggle to score goals and will wish that old boy N’Zogbia was still plying his trade with them.

Wolves vs Newcastle: 2-1

Newcastle United have been very fortunate to play some teams who are not up to form yet so their current position in the top 4 is only theirs by way of good luck. Surprisingly they have one of the tightest defences in the league but apart from scoring 7 goals in 6 games; I just can’t see where the goals are going to come from to beat a robust and solid Wolves team who were thoroughly beaten by an inform Liverpool team under Kenny Dalglish last weekend.

Just went back over his predictions for last weekend, found here: http://www.skysports.com/opinion/story/0,25212,15205_7195415,00.html

Now ignore all the boring Merson stuff and go down to the comments. First one there is from a Toon fan, albeit a one I don't fully agree with but whatever, he questions Merson's prediction and look what he went for...

Obviously! As Villa have already played against such Premier League giants as
Fulham!
QPR!
Blackburn!
Bolton!
Wolves!
Everton!
