We have: Southampton v Liverpool ManU v Reading Wigan v Newcastle Sunderland v Norwich........ and of course Villa v QPR. Two weeks ago we had a perfect weekend results wise, we won of course and all our relegation buddies lost allowing us to close the gap to 17th to just four points. Now if all results go to plan this weekend we could close it to just one point, but will that happen? Looking at the fixtures one by one, Saints have been on a terrible run recently while Liverpool have been beating everybody, culminating in their first top 4 win last weekend against Spurs. So on paper away win, but just when everything looks rosy in the garden for them they have a terrible habit of tripping over their shoelaces, so I'm going for a draw here. ManU will be too strong for managerless Reading, home win. Again, Wigan have been poor of late and if they are to have another great escape they will have to start beating the likes of Newcastle, who have started to string some impressive results together. Cant see that happening so I'm going for an away win here. Sunderland and Norwich have not been having the best of results lately, and are nervously looking over their shoulders. Hard-fought draw here. Lastly we have our trip to Villa Park. Both teams won last week, and QPR need a win here more than Villa. I think a third win on the trot may be too much to ask at this stage, so I think a draw here. Not a bad result for either team. That would leave the table looking like this; Sundreland 31 Saints. 29 Villa. 28 ------------------ QPR. 24 Wigan. 24 Reading. 23 thoughts?
Whereas we would still be 4 points from 17th, we would be off the bottom of the table and up 2 places, a good psychological step.
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst. Anything more and I'd end up putting the mockers on us (always goes like that for me I'm afraid). Question for a worrier like me is which of Liverpool, ManU, Toon or Norwich are likely to hold their nerve (and throats) against cornered rats? As for our basement scrap... no, I'd better not!
As Ciarrai says, it would be great to get off the bottom. We have been there for months. The minimum we need is a draw and hopefully a win against Villa. Every game now is massive. I wouldn't worry about the other results. If we keep winning, the other teams will be more worried about us.
Dunno why but ive got a real bad feeling we are gonna get stuffed on Saturday. My heart still says a 3-0 win for us though
I wouldnt say its a must win, its a must not lose game. If we do lose Sundreland 31 Saints. 29 Villa. 30 ------------------ Wigan. 24 Reading. 23 QPR. 23 and were back to square one
Only on your table Saints would be below Villa so only 6 points from safety......I know, I'm clutching at straws here
What Staines said, and also we would probably be off the bottom in nineteenth in this instance assuming Reading lose to ManU by a greater margin. All academic I know, as Finglas says we just need to keep winning. Simple innit?!
Exactly Willy and that's want we should hope for. Important game this is I want those young Villa bastards dispatched
