So basically, this was to be THE summer, in which the fruits of our labour would finally come to the forefront. All that patience, all those seasons on a thin budget, moving to the Emirates etc, the pay off was now. The club firmly came out and said we have money now, we are out for top class players, we will get top class players to help us compete at the top, that things aren't like before. And so what happened instead? It's Spurs who are the ones going on a major spending spree with over 100 million spent, even though they have no where near the resources we have. Yeah, you guys work that one out. I mean the irony is quite incredible when you think of it. Spurs have done what Arsenal were expected to do, and what have Arsenal done instead? After all these years of patience, finally having huge money, all we have done so far is get 2 players on a free, one of them an unproven untested injury prone strike Yaya Sanogo, and the other a player who left us 5 years ago.
Well, that's very good business and forward thinking on their part. When Arsenal sold our best players for big money, we never properly reinvested that money like Spurs have done, so Spurs still do better than us.
I don't disagree with that. I think Spurs have done good business ensuring that they've got some back up in before they've sold their best player.
And Spurs have just signed another quality player right now, meanwhile at Arsenal, Wenger's going around saying "WHO TO SIGN". **** me this has been a disaster so far.
It's not been a disaster so far - we just havent done things as quickly as we all would have liked. We have cleared all the deadwood - Great transfer business there. We have signed a solid squad player at 40k pw on a free - great bit of business. Signed a young striker with potential - good signing for the future which i doubt is the only striker we will see come in. So far our business has been fine, exactly the sorts of things we want to happen. We just haven't seen enough movement on bringing in the top quality additions. I think we failed with a couple of players we thought we would get (and would have been big names e.g. Suarez) and are now working to make sure we still get a couple of good additions. I'll still wait for Monday to judge the window properly as a LOT could change over the next few days.
I think our pursuit of a striker was fairly calamitous. We'd agreed personal terms with Higuain and allegedly ditched that to concentrate on Suarez. I'm not sure if that came before or after Ancelotti started demanding more money for him or not, but either way the Suarez bid turned out to be a dead end because somebody didn't do their homework properly over the forty million + one thinking it would trigger a release clause. The rest of the business has been okay, as you say shifting out the deadwood was a long overdue and necessary part of freeing up space and wages to sign better players and whilst that part hasn't come yet, there is still time. Flamini will be a solid signing, and on a free too so it was definitely a deal worth doing. Also don't forget that we did bid for Suarez and Bender, exactly the type of players we should be going for. If their clubs had agreed to sell them, people would be saying that this was a brilliant transfer window. When asked today, Wenger said that he was 'confident' that we would sign players before the window shuts. Usually he will say 'we are not close to signing anybody' if we're not, so you can only surmise that we are actually working on some deals to bring in more players. We'll have to wait and see what happens and make a judgement then.
Arsenal never bid for Higuain. They haven't actually bought anyone. Spurs have signed a good deal of quality players. Arsenal have missed out on a huge amount of quality players. This window has been an unmitigated disaster.
Even in my worst nightmare, I would never dreamt that we would had a transfer window like this. Utter, utter shambles.
Do you actually believe the bullshit you're writing? Our business has been fine so far? What part of signing no major players, and having a thin squad, is fine business? Maybe you missed the part about getting thrashed 3-1 by Villa at home, and Spurs could be another bad one, then you can come tell everyone again how business has been fine.
I don't see why he shouldn't believe his bullshit, you believe your bullshit. Given that none of us really know wtf is happening we are all just putting bullshit out there, but you are the one that thinks yours doesn't smell.
Yes i believe what i'm writing, or i wouldn't waste the time to write it. It's clear from my comments that i'm refering to the things we HAVE done as opposed to the things we haven't done (yet). I thought my point was well written enough with the reasons listed easily enough to read. I haven't at any point said i'll be happy if we fail to make some top quality signings before the window closes. Your just looking for people to take your frustration out on. I'll wait until the window is over to raise complaints about what has or hasn't been done. Believe me i'll be as pissed off as the next fan is if by tuesday this squad is the same. For now all we can do is comment on what has happened (things like clearing out the deadwood, signing Flamini and Sanogo) which i think has been steps in the right direction (you may disagree), and speculate on what we THINK is going on behind closed doors.
