We were so optimistic- too good a club and too many good players to stay in this third level of FA. Now I detect an air of apprehension: have & are the right decisions being made by the officials at PNE? Perhaps the decisions being made are for another purpose other than footballing ones? If the club is being set up for being sold, who would buy a third rate club and have enough money to invest so that it became a financial as well as footballling success? That would be a miracle to rival anything that has happened at Lourdes. More likely some poor sucker of a well intentioned fan will come along to be hoodwinked - that is,if that is what Is going on at the club. On the other hand, the club could be anticipating new regulations concerning income & expenditure/debt. These will have an in pact on NE that may confine the club to lower tiers of The FA unless it can increase revenue streams. Football seemed so much simpler in the 50s, but where did all the money go when NE were drawing large crowds? Discuss. Looking forward to watching our team thrash Wimbledon on the 31st. Up the original and true Lilywhites.
There are rumours regarding Westley buying the club although personally would be wary of that after he did his runner at Farnborough the Monday after they played Arsenal. Fans are always hoodwinked Barnet simply ttreated as a cash cow, hence the price of beer and refreshment inside the ground. Life was easier in the 50's the slight bit of it I could remember, as for drawing large crowds, expensive game to watch also lots of so called fans spend their Saturday afternoons sat on their a**es watching their heroes in the pub via the medium of Satelite TV.
Maclad, can't see GW buying the club - he's reputedly a shrewd business man. Only someone like me with more sentiment than sense, if I had the money that is, would buy PNE. Even then I doubt if my wife would agree & would veto it. Let's hope for progress this evening.
This time last year......was the last time I visited this board to wish you well for the coming season. I too was sure PNE would come straight back up and was left somewhat disappointed in what eventually unfolded. This time I am not predicting anything but will wish you luck once again, I would still like to see PNE promoted and with Huddersfield, Sheffield Wednesday & Charlton out of the way your chances must have been improved
Good luck to the Town as well. It would be good to see both East Anglian teams battling it out in the top tier, along with NE of course. The revenge of the smaller clubs!
Offer me 17th place here and now and I would take it I think it's going to be quite a lot harder this time round but hope to be pleasantly surprised.
