Micks comment after the Wigan game, FFS!! “I’m delighted with a point from the game,” he said. “It was a horrible game, neither side played particularly well. “I think it’s a good point. I’ve just stressed to the lads - whatever it takes. If it takes 75 points to get in the play-offs, we only need another 24 for that. And whatever it takes to win it, we’ve one more to that total. Really Mick, this is the problem i have with you, not many managers in your position would have come out with that ****, most would be mighty pist!!
Mick also said, Middlesbrough have had a great result, Bournemouth have, Derby have, arguably the best teams in the league, the three of them. Now i would rather he said we were the best team, instead of bumping up other sides!!
Just read this comment on TWTD, spot on, could not have put it better myself. I heard Mick's interview on Radio Suffolk, driving back from the game. Astonishing! Staggered! Twice he referred to Wigan as a good team, but with good players. Eh?! Second bottom of the table, 8 points from safety and just lost their best three players! They were there for the taking - possibly a mauling. Maybe we should go back to 433 for these types of games and be less cautious and less respectful of the opposition. I was staggered with the sub, with 6 minutes to go, bringing off a Midfielder (Tabb) for a Defender (Parr). But now it makes sense. Mick was protecting his precious point. Can't believe he was even bigging up their team to our players! What sort of mindset was he instilling in them. "Might get a point against this top outfit today boys" ? He said we could be grateful of that point come May if it gets us into the playoffs. Erm, yes, maybe, but we could be regretting the 2 points dropped that may have got us top 2. He keeps referring to playoffs. May as well toss a coin for the play off winner. Top 2 looked (I say, looked) a possibility but we're bottling it
I agree with some of the comments today. I Definitely would've started with Bish and Sears today. McGoldrick was disappointing again. I'm also surprised by Mick's comments... I like his cup half full mentality but I would say the players need a kick up the arse after today. We need to step up from these recent poor home performances. I just can't see us keeping up with the top three as things are. That said you've got to have a balanced perspective. 4th and 3 points of top on 31st Jan is something we would have
Yes its disappointing not to get a win, but sometimes it just doesn't click and when it doesn't then a point is good. What we must not forget is we have come a hell of a long way in a short space of time, i know its a worn out story but we must keep remember that.
Today was absolute garbage, MM got his tactics and some of his selections completely wrong, he has got to be able to think out side the box. Today was crying out for a change in tactics and formation but alas he stuck to a rigid 442. The only good thing about today was our defence, so I can understand why he is so reluctant to change that, however teams have worked us out, they know our tactics inside out and it is now to easy for teams, even as poor as Wigan (worst side I have seen this season) to stop us. Why we continually pumped the ball long was beyond me, I mean Murphy wasn't even on the bench let alone playing upfront, Hunt and Didsy are not going to look good under those circumstances. MM, you really need to have a long hard think about three at the back, we have not played well for a month now, time to stop the slide.!
If Mick continues to be bloody minded and stick with Tabb Skuse and Anderson in midfield then i can see nothing but mid table, in this league you can climb the tanble rapidly with a winning streak but you can also slide rapidly with a poor run!! We need creativity and we need to be flexible, something Mick finds hard to accept!!
Guru Most people would have taken 4th at the start of the season, but its not the end of the season, sadly, and if we continue to play the way we have during Jan, then no way will we make even the playoffs. If someone offered you 4th come Feb, at the start of Jan, would you have taken it? I wouldn't have!!
The thing is Warky, you slate everyone on twtd but they are all town fans and all have valid opinions, what makes yours right and theirs wrong?
Warky, that's abit rich coming from you, I have merely pointed out that today was gash, MM got his tactics wrong today & IMO is not brave enough to try a different formation, we have not played well for a month, the slide needs addressing!
Well said hoppers!! Its not as if its a one off, the whole of Jan has been poor, defence is fine, no probs at all, altho i would prefer Parr at RB and Chambers in CB with Berra (actually rather 3 at back but thats waaaaay too adventurous) Midfield is piss poor imo, how Teddy didnt start i dont know. Honestly cant see mick changing it next week and think we will struggle again!!
Yeah point taken spanish, but every side has a 'blip' the main thing is how you cope with this drop in form, i truly believe this is our blip and if that means drawing some games then fine. You talk about taking 4th in feb, well would you have taken being 3points from 1st in feb?
Didsy was not that good today....but when you are pumping long balls to him or trying to get in behind the back four for him to out sprint someone he is not going to look good is he? Now playing the ball into his feet............it didn't happen!
i honestly would have been disappointed considering where we were end of Dec!! Knowing we had Millwall, Brighton and Wigan who were all in the bottom 5 at the time, i would have expected maximum points and did expect maximum points. I expected 10 points from Jan but we got 4, not good enough against bottom of table teams!!
I think some are missing the point, today without Murph was the ideal time to try something else, we do not have another Murphy in our squad, so why the hell would you continue to play the same way? Pumping long balls to N Hunt who is 5 9" at best is not going to bare much fruit!
