This really infuriates me....

  1. When I've been discussing our start of the season with fans from other clubs, over not606, on xbox live chats over Fifa 12, and in real life, 80% of the time, they say something like - "you've made a good start to the season yes, but it's still early and you haven't really been tested yet".

Despite Arsenal being in poor form, we managed a clean sheet against them, which is something Man Utd and Spurs failed to do, and we were playing a stronger Arsenal team than Manure were.

We're getting all these good result because we're a good team, and our quality gets us points even when we play badly.

Have we been tested? I'd say yes, but in my opinion, if we really haven't been tested, it's because we've simply been too good for our opponents, not because we've caught a team at a bad time or that they simply played ****e.

This was this case last season. 90% of the time when we raped a team, it's always because they were ****e, not because we were good. A good team can be made to look poor by a better team.

I'll be pissed off if we get beat by someone like Man City and people say "This is a wake up call for Newcastle"... <doh> I can see it happening, but in my opinion, if the only teams we get beat by this season are the top teams, or the teams that are tough at their own ground, it means we've had a successful season and improved.

You can only beat what's in front of you. If we suffer our first defeat at the hands of Spurs, then so be it, but to me, 1 defeat in our opening 8 games, and that defeat being at the hands of a CL quality team = a very good start and that we're definite contenders for Europe IMO.

I don't see how Aston Villa away isn't a game that would test any team. We deserved a win, but to come away with a point was a fantastic result.

    *deep breaths*

    Rant over.

I actually agree with them to be honest but I still think we are better than they realise.

Funny thing is, say we played Man U instead of QPR and lost, we'd still be 4th only we'd have 14 points and still have had a brilliant start.

Not to mention Aston Villa and Arsenal are both good sides who could well have beaten us.

Agree, It is really starting to get on my nerves. The derby is a tough match as is Villa away, Wolves away, QPR away and Arsenal at home. It seems people want us to fail and want to be clever by saying we have been given a reality check when we get beat by bigger teams.

When we have Played Spurs and Wigan I will see what I think - can we punish the worst teams and can we battle against the strongest.

  9. If we suffer a defeat vs Spurs, i wont be too upset as long as we don't get raped. If we lose 1-2 i could accept that, and as long as we beat Wigan the following week, I'll be a happy geordie :)

Lets not start getting into this inferiority complex frame of mind. We have done great so far, beating n drawing against all we have faced. We will lose to the top sides but thats what happens. The teams in mid table have the ability to beat the dross, which is what we are well capable of. We are a better side than I thought we were, putting in some great performances so far. I am over the moon we have these points in the bag so early as it gives us the time and confidence to keep moving forward and not to panic if we lose 2 on the spin for example.
Cabaye , Tiote are 2 class cenbtral midfielders. Our back 4 is sound, the keeper is good , and so far the forwards are okay. Hopefully our midfield will provide so many opportunities for our average strikers so that they can afford to miss a few chances before another one comes along and so goals will come.
    Onwards n upwards

If Norwich can create chances at Old Trafford then so can we. We have more quality to put chances away so who knows what will happen.

Who cares what people think? Let the football speak for itself. Forget this 'woe is me/us' stuff; if it isn't winging about the owner, or director, the players, or the manager, its the opposing fans. Let's just be happy with how the team is playing, regardless of whether fans who don't watch us week-in, week-out recognise it yet.

Am I the only one who read the topic title and just expected it to say 'everything and everyone'?

Personally I do agree, we're doing really well but if we believe we're a seventh place team so we should be. It's inferiority complexes kicking in when we say 'well, Wolves are good' or 'one was a derby'. I'm not deluding myself that we're a top team, but we've got results against teams in and around us, the test comes with Tottenham next week. We've played well and we're getting better bar the ten minutes of Wolves, so bugger the pundits and bring on the big guns.

I fully expect a hiding against one of United, City or Chelsea mind.

Villa have easily had the easiest start to the season on paper. Their toughest game on paper was Everton away, who are habitual slow starters. For me we've had a good run and its about to get real tough but you have to win the so called lesser games. Win or lose against Spurs we have played and started well. 4 goals conceded. That is not luck. I see it like this:

    August
Sat 13 17:30 H Arsenal PREM 0-0 Media expectation - defeat, top 4-7 side tough game but we probably deserved our point for some great commitment
Sat 20 12:00 A Sunderland PREM 1-0 Media expectation - defeat, top 7-10 side big things expected by media and fans alike game of two halfs but we always looked more likely and they had huge slices of fortune
Sun 28 13:00 H Fulham PREM 2-1 Media expectation - draw, top 7-10 side, fit from early season start albeit I'd say they tired against us after midweek game good pl game but felt we edged it
    September
Mon 12 20:00 A QPR PREM 0-0 Media expectation - draw, relegation candidates but we caught them on a high at home were we lucky? A little but they didn't actually threaten to score for all they outplayed us
Sat 17 15:00 A Aston Villa PREM 1-1 Media expectation - defeat, top 7-10 side good at home and going well superb controlling performance unlucky not to win
Sat 24 15:00 H Blackburn PREM 3-1 Media expectation - win relegation and a poor side, went to script
    October
Sat 01 15:00 A Wolves PREM 2-1 Media expectation - defeat or draw at best got lucky with 2 decisions for me and let them back in a little but we always looked a threat. Score 2 in PL games and you'll get points more often than not

Not the toughest run but you have to get the points and 15 is a great haul for any side outside the big 4.

    So they can suck it.

I like the 80% part like you've been sat at home drawing up conclusions that only 1 in 5 think that NUFC haven't been riding their luck. Did you use quantitative or qualitative research methods?

In all seriousness, I don't think you've been lucky at all this season. Even against Wolves that ball still hasn't been proved to have crossed the line so you can't give the goal. The penalty is a direct result of Karma and the numerous fouls Wolves get away with all over the pitch when their "players", go out to injure other professionals in every single game.

I think you'll take at least a point from Spurs, I know for sure that they don't travel well to the North East but their fans won't learn. To them, they are an established top 4 side with world beaters in their side. To Utd fans they're just a flash in the pan, a breeding ground, a minnow, an easy 6 points.

By the way OP, you're making yourself look a muppet by saying you got a point from a stronger Arsenal side than United played. The difference is mate, United put 8 (EIGHT) past Kzenchnzhzny and there wasn't that much of a difference unless you're looking at players and judging how good they are by their transfer values. Arshavin, Gervinho, Rosicky are all players who wouldn't make the Man Utd reserves team bench, so what if they had Vermaelen, do you think that would have stopped a rampant Man Utd? 1 player? HMT you're a deluded smackhead.
