For me,as a loyal SAFC fan, this latest transfer-window, that has just closed, has got to have been our most successful for a long while. We have signed one class- act in Jermaine Defoe, and released a lot of dross from the club, thus reducing the wage-bill.Good-bye,Cabral,Mavrias,Altidore etc.Let's now move on with our settled squad.
Aye. Much better window and a more settled squad. Still room for a late loan move if any good options come up.
A very successful window imo, unwanted out I'm happy, we got rid of fringe players who were never going to be in our plans, brought in a quality striker, reduced the wage bill and never spent a penny. Win, Win for me.
Would be surprised if we didnt try and use the money freed up by Cabral/Mavrias to either get a freebie in (like Benoit Assou-Ekotto) Or use it to try and tempt players that are available on pre-contract deals for summer However with the re-emergence of the Ricky Alvarez news but finding the the actual agreement is an obligation and not just an option it sounds as if a lot of our summer budget has been taken up already
Mercenary! Reading the mirror's Alvarez story properly indi it said "If sunderland stay up along with other clauses". I'm guessing they mean game time, possibly goals and assists. There is no way in a million years that we "Have" to sign him simply for staying up. All depends on much more than that I think
These windows should be scrapped for a more sensible system like the one we had before this media circus landed, its a farce imo.
Agreed. There has to be more than a `stay up and we buy` clause. If he doesn`t make a contrbution (whether by injury or simply non appearances) and we stay up, there`s no way the club would be forced into a purchase. Surely the club wouldn`t allow themselves to be backed into a corner like that. The most likely scenario to me would be if we stay up we get first option on an agreed price. That would seem to be a much more sensible arrangement.
A very successful window imo, unwanted out, qulity in, nothing spent, wage bill reduced, win win I think the price is already fixed mate and depending on who you believe it's either £7.5m or £8m. I like the lad, I think he has that bit of quality about him, got a great left foot and rarely makes a bad pass, however he needs to show more to justify that kind of money IMO.
I agree. The point I was trying to make is that we have a choice and not a compulsory purchase if we stay up as some of the articles have been suggesting.
Aye fully agree mate and I honestly can't see Ellis or Maggie agreeing to a deal like that, it would be madness tbh.
