The dust has finally settled at Ashton Gate and here is the view of a Canadian fan of BCFC. Most of you know that with luck and a following wind I get to see one game per season, so it is somewhat difficult for me to comment on the on-field antics with any authority. All my info on BCFC comes from the usual sources such as the mass media and a fair smattering of BCFC player for game highlights. I listen to radio bristol for live game coverage and feed off the comments of the announcers to enhance my knowledge. So, my view on the ongoing situation is as follows: 1. We now have the right manager who will take us forward based on his experience in the game both as a player and manager. Coming fron St Johnstone he clearly understands what a limited budget means. 2. For many years we have had a surplus of players who just don't put in their shift. 3. It would appear that many players have either lost their way or given up totally. 4. Team selection was very questionable under Millen and GJ and the back up team tactics rarely worked. 5. Crowds are diminishing rapidly and the major source of revenue is going down the toilet. My list above is only the start of what we have all known for some time and your corrective actions would be welcome. It's good to see posters on this site getting behind Del Boy and relishing the thought of a turnaround in our fortunes under his guidance. Good luck at Upton Park tonight (I will be tuned in) and I have a good feeling that we have finally got the perfect manager on board who can motivate our squad to step up and be counted.
From the opposite of North America I pretty much agree with your points. Like yourself, I am limited in opportunity to get home and rely so much on the internet to keep on the pulse. We shouldn't expect miracles but it surely seems that the appointment of Del has lit a rocket up a few a$$es which has had a positive effect. Survial is our only realistic target this season and a summer clear out will be most exciting. By the way - how are you listening to Radio Bristol? I can't get the BBC commentary here as it's only meant for UK listeners. Tried IP spoofing and that didn't work either. Would love to listen without spending on the BCFC player.
I'm surprised you're reluctant to invest in BCFC player given your location, would imagine it would be perfect for you. Certainly worth the £4 a month anyways, the media team at BCFC really to go balls out to ensure good value (interviews, highlights, commentary, archive etc). Even as a ST holder, I find it's easily worth the monthly subs. Anyways, what seems positive is that the players like him yet they're all saying how hard they're having to work. Sounds like the perfect combination to me.
Spot on chimpster! I have been using BCFC Player for years and the quality of streaming is getting better - finally! Watching the interviews and game highlights improves my understanding of what's going on at Ashton Gate. It's also the only money of mine that filters through to BCFC apart from my rare visit to watch city. I will be getting to see my only game this season in late march and I hope by that time the lads are enjoying a good run of form. Go on tampa spend your money on BCFC Player and enjoy live commentaries etc, and I also believe there is a downloadable feature now available to stream the BBC videos for use with the system used over here. I think the link is expatshield.com on the BBC site - try it and see what happens.
I will give it a go chaps. A friend of mine showed me "Villa World" a couple of years back and it was shocking. The audio constantly cut out and the videos never worked. He cancelled his subscription after a month, so I figured BCFC World would be the same as it's all from a common provider. I guess they have improved things. Has to be said, watching the scrolling text commentary on the BBC site is pretty annoying!
If i'm not at a game I can't stand looking at the BBC commentary, doesn't tell me how well or poor we played and I need to listen via radio or something like that
