    It's very common for babies to develop a flat side to their head as their heads are very soft when first born as the skull plates have yet to fuse. To correct it they wear helmets which encourage the head to form correctly, I think that is why the baby in the picture is wearing the helmet. There could be other reasons such as protection after an operation, etc

    Imagine if the first words he said to his mum were "F**k off", she would probably try and sue the artist for painting his headgear.

    You're right that's what these helmets are for. I think it's a great idea. It will maybe stop stares, awkward questions and pitying looks from other children [or adults] looking at a baby in a painted helmet as opposed to just the white one, because the painted one looks more like a hat or even a dress up item. Much better for a baby wearing one, having smiling faces looking at him/her than a look of horror or pity.

    mito everything a baby wears is for the parent, this helmet though is a medical necessity so why not make it as pleasant as possible.
