I've heard this nonsense for the last year and a half, honestly i don't think its a weak premier league like most people are making it out to be, teams like Newcastle are improving every year they are challenging the top 4 i can seem them making the champions league next year if they find good players in the transfer window, look at Sunderland, they are in the top 10 and have alot of former United players in their team. Norwich and Swansea have been a breath of fresh air, there's alot of positives in the premier league, its a competitive league, its entertaining. Thoughts ?
The rest of the traditional "Big Four" are very weak compared to previous years, but City and Spurs are probably about as strong as some of those clubs have ever been. The PL has been stronger in the past, like in 2009 when we had three out of four CL finalists, but it's also been much weaker, like in 2004 when our representatives got dumped out of Europe by a collection of French, Portuguese, Polish and Romanian clubs. Fans of Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal just find it hard to accept that the PL can still be pretty strong without them actually being any good.
I think the Premier League is become more competitive (and is far more competitive than leagues like La Liga) but I also think that the top sides are weaker than they were a few seasons back.
I think that's more of an experience and knowledge thing. This season, imo City and Utd have been stronger in the league than any teams over the past decade barring Arsenal in 04, Chelsea in 05 and 06 and Utd in 08 and 09. But inexperience has caused both sides to underperform in Europe.
I thought at the start of the season that Man City would struggle in Europe as they haven't been there before. I can't believe how awful we were though, and I really can't believe how terrible our attitude appeared to be.
Weak compared to what? Id say PL teams have enjoyed an unusually strong period the last few years and people are now accustomed to English teams regularly bullying their way through the CL to the later stages. I think a lot of teams in the PL are in transition for one reason or another and in the case of United just didn't put the effort in either. Next season there will be a better showing in the Cl from us. Not sure about the others.
do you really believe this ? I think with the exception of city all clubs are weaker as well as more inconsistent . United has been good in the league but I think this is because SAF makes the most of he's got .
