i'm tired of hearing it, yes i should i know better, but i remember hearing this rubbish this time last year and look what happened, we went on to win the league by 9 points, a year on we're in the same position but we're 4 points clear with 9 games to go, i guarantee you now, most of our players would walk into any team in the premier league and in europe and that's a fact.

    Thoughts ?

I would say that this United team is not as good as compared to previous teams in fergie's reign at old Trafford.

    Haters gonna Hate.

The team has scored an impressive amount of goals so far, on track for a record amount of points (unlikely though) and our traditional top 4 rivals are 20-30 points behind us.

If it wasn't for City's £££'s they'd be handing this "poor" United team the title already.

You may be producing what's expected of you in the league but you've crashed out of Europe twice and disappointed in the FA Cup once again, although you did have 2 tough games.

It's still a very good team but compared to even last year's team, it's weakened. That's how it goes sometimes. You've bought in a fair few new players, most of them young and still settling in and your older players can't be relied upon as much as they once were. This year and next year are probably the best chance other teams will have to beat you to the league but already only City are offering any sustained pressure. It doesn't look great for knocking you off your perch next season either. Chelsea are in transition between generations of players too but handling it far worse, we could well have a turbulent summer with our manager and players possibly leaving and Arsenal need Wenger to start spending big, as well as the summer ritual of desperately trying to keep hold of their star player(s).

This United team is one of the poorest in Europe in my experience. However it is clearly good enough for the premiership. Something to do with SAF's experience. In the last 2 seasons it has all been down to him.

Keeper = Good potential but getting better with each game
Defense = Good but unsettled through injuries
Central midfield = Average, not good enough for European competition
    Wingers = Good
    Strikers = Good

    That is my honest assessment.

Yeah we deff need a decent centre mid to come in during the summer but that's the only real concern we have I think

Our team is much better than its given credit for. The table shows that. However i accept that it is a weaker team than a few years ago and at the moment we're just not good enough to win in europe. That has to be a concern.

I suspect however that it is english football in general that is really in decline. We should probably be praised for our staying power. The league has changed a lot. Look at the then unshakebale "big 4" from 2008 (when our squad was at its best) Liverpool are nowhere while arsenal and chelsea scrap for 4th place. You can go even further than that 5th place that year was Everton, 6th Aston Villa, 7th Blackburn, 8th Portsmouth. Their all worse off.

This. The fact is that a poor Man Utd team is still better than 95% of other teams. And whilst we are much weaker than we were from 07-09, I still rate this team higher than the one we had from 04-06, which was only six or seven years ago.

    Look at the season objectively:

Premier League - top of the bunch, bookies favourites for the title
FA Cup - drawn away to City then away to Liverpool. With a draw like that we were always going to need some luck to get through, and unfortunately we didn't get it
Carling Cup - played the kids and got knocked out. Much like our much stronger side did in 07/08
Europe - pretty much an unmitigated disaster. But that, imo, is more down to youth and inexperience than quality. Jones, Smalling and De Gea all have a lot to learn about playing in the CL, and even players like Rafael still need to grow wiser before they will be at the required level. Hopefully this season will serve as a wake up call to them and some of the senior pros who are getting a bit too complacent after three finals in four years.

We've been in decline since 1995, you should be used to it by now. Seriously, why do you give a **** about what the morons are spouting?

    one word

    INJURIES.

We have coped in the league as it is long, not so much the cups

Against Bilbao Saf did something I never thought I would see under his reign. Basically he took off players admitting defeat. The normal SAF way is to bring on another striker

As someone said above 'haters gonna hate', shame some of these are the fans. Heres how I see it

DeGea and Lindegaard would get into ALL the top 4 in any league. Not saying replace the likes of Hart, but would get in, Amos is third choice

Rafael, rio, vidic, evra same again, as would the deputies in evans, smalling, Jones, Fabio

Nani, carrick, Anderson, Valencia same again, as would Young, scholes, Giggs

Rooney and Hernandez speaks for itself Welbeck and berba would too

Had they all been fit, we would have seen a different UTD this season

Oh dear, someone poists out the obvious, that previuos United sides would romp this current league. That is painfully obvious. The prem lost its 4 best midfielders to spain and we try claim the overall quality has not dropped. Yes United are definately not as good as before, that does not mean they are not good enough, you complete fool.

Proof is in th epudding, top of the league so with that in mind your whole post is redundant.

This is the poorest United team in a while, but to be honest, it is the poorest Chelsea and Liverpool for a while too Arsenal have been faffing about where they are for a few years now, spurs and City Newcastle and co have improved making the gap between current and previoous United sides look bigger.

There are certain factors causing this but mainly loss of quality not replaced.

The prem has lost over the last decade some greats through retirement and moves.
    Shearer
    Keane
    Scholes practically gone
    Giggs
    Alonso
    Ronaldo
    Mascerano
    Fabergas
and the list goes on, am sure there are quite a few more. Grass roots footy have not replaced the ones lost with new arrivals, make of that what you will but Spain are producing quality ona big scale

What is remarkable is that during that spell where the prem had the quality is the complete failure to dominate european football.

Maybe this United squad in some departments compared to previous squads created by SAF has some weaknesses. Midfield being the obvious. However I've said it before and I'll say it again. It just goes to show how weak our rivals are. United are obviously rebuilding. New inexperienced goalkeeper. New young defenders. Terrible injury lists. Aging midfielders of great quality whom any team would struggle to replace and still despite all their spending and all their bluster and boasting, our rivals cannot overtake SAF and United! <laugh>

True, but then we should've beaten Pompey in 08 and Everton in 09. Cups are all about performances on the day - it's quite rare for the best team in the country to win the FA cup. It's only happened about six or seven times in the last twenty odd years.

<laugh> Four best midfielders?!? Let me guess, Alonso and Mascherano are in there somewhere? No mention of Silva, Toure and Mata coming the other way? I'd take all of them over Masch, and probably over Alonso as well.

Guess it really brings home how some people define the word 'poor' ;)

It's not something to be upset about, the previous teams set a high benchmark. It's not a great Utd team, but it's still good enough to potentially win the league. If it was a better team you would still be in Europe.
