He promptly picked up 5 goals in 13 games but Bobby was sacked in short shrift and Macdonald dropped out of favour. Not one to sit back he challenged the hierarchy and was promptly sold to Luton. With them his scoring ability flourished as did his value. Moving to Newcastle for £180,000 and then the Arsenal for a weird £333,333.34. Mac returned home though in 1980 as our Manager. He won us promotion back to the old 2nd Division and so nearly off pulled taking us to the top flight. There were some grand names in his team that season and some memorable victories. The game that sticks in the craw was, of course, away to Derby and the disgraceful crowd scenes; culminating in the ref blowing for time 2 minutes early.
