Former Fulham boss Mark Hughes wants to take advantage of Brede Hangeland's dwindling contract and sign him for Queens Park Rangers.

The under-pressure QPR boss worked with the Norwegian international during his one season in charge at Craven Cottage two years ago and knows all about the central defender's qualities and leadership.
Hughes wants the 31-year-old to solidify his shaky QPR back four and is reportedly prepared to pay as much as £9million to land his man.
Hangeland will be down to the final six months of his contract in January and Cottagers officials know they could be forced to cash in on him unless he agrees fresh terms.
Hughes has been chasing a Premier League-proven centre back all year and tried to lure Michael Dawson from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

£9m for a 31yo with 6 months left on his contract?

He keeps digging the hole, that's one of the things that I find intolerable.

Surely in January he can sign a pre contract for free and join in the summer, spend the 9 mill on someone special in Jan. Why pay all that money to join the MH old school club. The guys that MH has worked with before probably were good when he was with them, but not so good now!

Not believable. I am not a Hughes fan but let's wait before using stories like this against him.

We cant do that, we can only sign players from foreign teams on a pre contact then. Its just 1 month before the end of the club for English sides.

Even so, hes desperate and I wouldnt put it past him wasting yet more money.

That must make Adel's price tag at least £45,000,000!

Considering he paid over £4m for Zamora and is now more desperate, its entirely possible he would do it. It just shows how little faith I have in him.

At least he's thinking about the defence (if true). That's a start.

Brede has been great stalwart for Fulham, but, this season there seems to be something lacking.
So please take him,we at the Cottage know only to well when our players are getting to the end
of their careers,we can allways ship them out to the QPR rest home.
9 mil ?. ok we will take 6. So to all you fans please bombard your board to proceed with this move.

I'm sure he won't need much convincing to join QPR once he's had a chat with Zamora and AJ...

That's so true, mate ............... just more of the same! You can't build a future, looking back all day long. He needs to add a little bit of 'past' ( for stability ) .... with with a bit more of the 'new' where the unknown factor could pay real dividends.

Hangeland has been looking past his best since the Spring, not only for Fulham but for Norway as well. Though he has scored some very important goals for his Country recently. If Hughes wants to look at Norwegian CB's he should take a look at Vegard Forren who is only 24, plays for Molde, and has been playing well alongside Hangeland for Norway very recently - he looks as good and is one for the future, and would be cheaper I should think.

Hes 10 years too young, Hughes would want to sign him in 2022 when hes over the hill.

Too true unfortunately. Forren has been playing well against good teams in the Euro League and is worth looking at, but I'm sure there are many others. I wonder how active Hughes new Scouting team are now.
