A sensible overview of where we're at as a club - and where many others with whom we did battle in recent seasons, would dearly love to be. Rome wasn't built - or conquered, in a day seems to be the moral of the story. http://pickourteam.com/premierleagu...ats-the-problem-with-hughtons-norwich/847284?
A sensible, pragmatic and intelligent assessment of our current position. But he is also right that moaners will always moan because it is the nature of the beast, and some are born to moan.
I feel even more depressed after reading that piece ! The PL days were fantastic and that's what makes CH's dross even harder to swallow. I know about the "stability" blah blah blah but I want to see quality football again at CR and be entertained again, I can't remember the last time that happened. I just want to see more attacking football, is that to much to ask for your money?
I read that last night after someone posted it on FB and agree its an excellent piece. We've been a bit spoiled in recent seasons, for a couple of years we must have been one of the most exciting clubs in the country to be a fan of, and I guess we we never going to be able to maintain that. Just a shame we've lurched to the other end of the scale since then. I think any neutral who hadn't been aware of our rise from the doldrums must think we're as dull as ditchwater to watch the past year or so, and they wouldn't be too far wrong.
I think that if we had appointed a different manager last year one of four things would have happened.1 He would have played it like Hughton and we would have survived, albeit moaning about the football.2 He would have played it like Hughton and we would have gone down, moaning more.3 He would have played more attacking football and we would have survived -happy.4.He would hve played more attacking and we would have gone down-moaning.So Hughton was the second best option. I think the author was correct though, that first season was brilliant in every way.It was just too hard an act to follow.
Well, plenty of posters on here have been saying the same thing 'til blue in the face! What is so different about hearing it from some completely unknown blogger? Maybe it is Superman in disguise
Did you find any entertainment in the 2 home games this season?? If not then don't bother going again
Quote: I think fans want to be inspired and away from home Norwich are too often insipid, displaying a staggering inability to keep possession. Iâm not sure Hughton knows his best team or how exactly to set them up. There are fair criticisms to be made of his tenure and of some players. I took this from the article. Now are you all going to poo poo the article because it is not unswervingly positive? Those of us who still doubt CH continue to do so (I did not say, not support) because for all the great players we have bought and been linked to this summer there is a nagging doubt that CH cannot get the best out of them, that we could infact be better to watch and equally/more successful with another coach. I do agree that there have been some indications of a change in style. but they have been all to fleeting thus far. How long can we wait for these things to gel? I know it can take time but by the converse in buying RvW did he not have a defined plan of how we should set up, play and generally make the most of his talents? Because so far there is little evidence that there is any idea of how to get him the ball in a dangerous position. Some teams are showing greater signs of gelling and we could easily get left behind. This is not pant wetting, blind panic or unrelenting CH bashing. As I said there have been some fleeting signs of change, but will they remain fleeting or can we evolve and improve? We'll know a lot more in 5-6 games time, so for good or ill over those next 6 games I will again be pretty quiet, not because we win and I'm a moaning minnie, or that we've lost to say CH what a t@*t. But because planning a wedding is a right ballache and the future Mrs has me chained to the organisational coal face! Bah!
i dread to think how many times i've said this but here i go again! PROGRESS WILL BE SLOW!!! i don't understand why some people are unable to comprehend this statement. our rise was meteoric! did people honestly believe we would continue to rise like that? did they really believe we would carry on with our swash-buckling style? did they really, truly figure that watching football is always like that? if they did, football is the wrong sport for them so far, we've played five games this season - everton was a really cracking, end to end game - if anyone didn't enjoy watching that they should be checked for a pulse. hull away was a bit of a disaster but hull deserved an awful lot of praise for the way they kept us out - something many fans on here failed to appreciate. the bury game was extraordinary! the saints game was extremely enjoyable and we played positively and it was entertaining. spurs away, well, they were just miles better than us although we never really helped ourselves. so out of that, where is all the disappointment coming from? that's three out of five games that were very enjoyable. away from home work is needed but did people think hughton could just click his fingers and we'd suddenly be transformed into a free-flowing football team? i truly despair at the sentiments of some of our 'fans' because in all honesty, they come across as spoilt and often show a distinct lack of understanding for what the club is going through right now. its ****ing embarrassing reading it so often. LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTURE! you won't be able to judge the manager until the end of the season
Interesting point, General Bah!. Many said that last weekend would be a good time to play Spurs because they'd made additions very late in the window and wouldn't have had time to gel / bond /interact just yet. Well, that theory soon went "****". THEY were tight, cohesive, fluid in movement both in possession and also on the few occasions we had the ball. Some of our 'passing' suggested the guys had never met before, never mind trained together for weeks. We had no midfield penetration, they had it in bundles. Don't forget Eriksen was making his Spurs debut at the age of 21 and pulled all the strings throughout his 70 minutes or so. Hughton undoubtedly has a great eye for bringing quality players - within our less than Tottenham budget, but doesn't show any suggestion that once he's signed them up, that he knows how to get the best out of them. What say you, Ricky?
I do look at the bigger picture and thats why, if we are still making little progress and falling behind I consider possiblities other than blindly sticking to something that is only just barely working Again for the record, I am still behind CH, I don't know if he is the right man for the job, my suspition is sadly not, but as long as he is manager of NCFC I will cheer him and us on. Any progress made like I have said, so far is fleeting but enough for me to remain open minded that may be he may surprise all of us doubting Thomas's and get the team playing moderately entertaining and still more importantly successful football. I really might start to believe if we actually turned up to an away game!! Bah!
PROGRESS WILL BE SLOW!!! for goodness sake, have some bloody patience you lot. how can anyone tell if progress is being made when you are four games into a new season and haven't even been able to call upon all your new recruits yet? anyone worrying at this stage sounds completely irrational.
Anyone know how many tickets we sold for the Stoke away game the previous two seasons? Looks like we're struggling to sell them this year with the club currently trying to flog them off at half price, is this telling? I'd be amazed if our away following this season isn't significantly less than it has been for a while, and whilst some may reasonably point to increased prices, the state of the economy etc etc as factors, surely the prospect of watching us away nowadays, with very little hope of us putting on any kind of decent, attacking performance will be the main reason behind this.
it is on tv, combined with the fact that our last two visits to stoke have probably been the worst matches i've ever witnessed, its not really a surprise
My thoughts are that villas Boas probably has a very good idea of how he wants to play and with in that has thought this player will add this and he could slot in there. And with both good management and exceptional players it looks like he is reaping results quickly. Now whilst I would think that CH and all managers would have a similar mind set and ideas. why do we still seem to have round pegs in square holes? How does he intend to feed the wolf? Will we ever actually control the ball and sustain pressure on opponents? I know it takes time but seemingly more for some than others. I'm not sure I've understood a number of his selections so far this season, and I think some of the odd ones have certaintly led to some of the problems we've had in games. e.g. Although I would like to see a bit more forward verve, I would still never of even attempted to go to THFC with 2 up top. I agree with Robbie, Supers et al that 451 need not be defensive, it is the basics, our mind set and the rigidity that are seemingly our problems in attacking. Why have we still not seen Tettey/Johnson(Holding), Fer(Slightly holding but surging link between defense attack) and Howson(the link between defense and attack) The Howson bit frustrates me, I have thought that not only did he finish last season stong, but when in the right position this, he has been a real asset and really could be our best option behind RvW or Hooper. Bah!
Aside from cup games have we ever offered had any discount on any games since McNally was in charge, or is this the first time we've done it? I didn't realise the game was on telly to be fair
Totally agree, whilst supers has a point, it is Stoke! I think we will see a drop in all others too unless we can start to show something on the road. Half price, isn't cheap enough I live in nottingham and am relatively close, a fiver and they might tempt me, I'm a naughty boy please punish me!! Bah!
I hear ya Super, why all the pants wetting?! , Hooper and Olsson haven't even played yet, I think we will see a big difference when they feature. Having said that though is our record that bad so far?, drew against Everton, beat Southampton. Doing a lot better than some teams in the PL.
