Last month a world-wide survey was conducted by the UN.

The only question asked was:

"Could you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?"

The survey was a massive failure because of the following:

1. In Eastern Europe they didn't know what "honest" meant.
2. In Western Europe they didn't know what "shortage" meant.
3. In Africa they didn't know what "food" meant.
4. In China they didn't know what "opinion" meant.
5. In the Middle East they didn't know what "solution" meant.
6. In South America they didn't know what "please" meant.
7. In the USA they didn't know what "the rest of the world" meant.
8. In the UK they hung up as soon as they heard the Indian accent.
9. In Portugal they didn't know what " give it a rest" meant!

Jim, in fairness to North he can't leave stuff like what you and I were discussing up on the Forum however innocent it may have been, or the PC Brigade would hunt him down and have him for dinner.

Also, I have an inkling someone may have gotten onto him after those posts because at first he seemed to be joining in!!

 

I remember when North used to be on the Palace 606 page everyday, metaphorically stamping on their train sets and calling them Nigels.

Whether Portugal knows what 'give it a rest' means or not, them people on the Algave clearly know a thing or two about resting!! Me son goes down there a lot for a precisely that reason. Another rum please barman... ah, Jim lad!!

National stereotypes, yes, but racist? I think not.

 

There is nothing even remotely racist about sharing an observational joke at EVERYONE'S expense.

Racism is about power, abuse and subordination of a particular group of people on the grounds of race or ethnicity.

The punchline (no.8) of Jim's OP is about globalisation and the effect of international services to provide for a home market (e.g. BT using foreign call centres) nothing to do with the quality of Indian workers per se.

Dont know the history but the mods are in a bad place, just fans like everyone else, not experts in what is racist so have to make judgements and hey know they will never be right in all eyes.

The rule we work to is if in doubt act because better safe than sorry. Its always sad, to me, when fellow fans cant see that and support rather than find fault.
