Its FA Cup third round weekend and the Chairboys welcome the Villans to Adams Park for the third ever competitive meeting between the clubs, hoping it will be third time lucky as the two previous meetings both at AP are best forgotten for the Chairboys defenders, they were both second round League Cup ties in the first in 2003 we were hammered 5-0 and in the second in 2005 after going in at the break leading 3-1 we let in 7 second half goals for a 8-3 thrashing. It will be the first Saturday FA Cup 3rd round game the Chairboys have taken part in since 2001 as in 2002 the home game against Fulham was postponed due to a frozen pitch and played the following Tuesday night and in 2011 the game against Hereford was also on a Tuesday night due to the Bulls playing their second round replay on the Saturday. Apart from having his no.1 suspended and his no.9 injured GA has a full squad to choose from, so Alex Lynch and AAH will be looking to impress in front of the cameras and Beany may make the bench. I will be having an early start to get down to AP for this game my ticket is safely tucked away in my WWFC wallet don't forget to take yours with you Ron! and it's about time we were in the forth round draw again I'll take the draw and another visit to Villa Park a week on Tuesday
As if Guy As I remember that 8-3 thrashing we fell apart in the second half following Nathan Tyson going off injured and not having a strong bench. The own goal and a couple of questionable decisions didn't help. We were brilliant in the first half and didn't deserve that. Revenge would be sweet. You can get 6/5 Villa which seems like a late Christmas present; so could be worth a bet to cover expenses whilst being more than happy to lose your stake if we win or draw.
Right chaps, I hope you were watching the other Devon club tonight showing the Premmy Wemmy big bollox boys how to play. Now all you have to do is go out and improve slightly on that and do Div 2 proud. Best of luck to you and I will keep everything crossed.
Anyone going today who wants to meet up before or after let me know I'll be parking up near the ground about 10.30 and I will be standing in the home end Come on you blues
Very excited for this, feel there could be an upset in the air but regardless we should put in a good account of ourselves. The biggest reason i feel we wont do it is because hayes is injured, and sometimes that makes us look very disjointed upfront. We will need to be at our best today, COYB!
Strewth a homer Ref with the Pen...... Well done to your lot. Once again the lowly league puts one over on a biggy. Won't be as big a payday as the Exeter lot will get but stilll a decent payday if nothing else out of it. Probably have to wait till the next round for that I expect....
Before i start i should say i'm a bit pissed I felt a draw was a fair result and probably financially perfect for the club. Matt Bloomfield was at his best today with Joe Jacobson not far behind with his set pieces but could have done more with the Villa goal. It must have been obvious to any Wycombe fan just how much we missed Paul Hayes up front hopefully he'll be fit for the replay. The money we've earned so far is a godsend the club needed and i'm hoping we can bring in a striker from what we've earned to cover Hayes if he gets injured again. Yes i know it was only Aston Villa but we drew at home to a Premier League team and i'm bloody proud to be a Wycombe fan today. Might just have a few more beers to celebrate a great result.
Financially a great result hope the replay is also on TV although I'm going to villa park to see the lads do us proud again
A really great game of football outplayed Villa in the second half, just seen the penalty on BBC news it was a penalty for use of an elbow, I thought use of an elbow was a least a yellow card. Thought Jacobson needed to get closer to the winger glad when Villa sub him in the second half. Only one team left it all out on the pitch that was us. Gestade hardly got a look in. A Premier League team certainly heading for Championship football. Looking forward to the replay we are better away from home
Just got home and had a cup of tea and a chat. What a fantastic Christmas present that was. Great performance from the team. As mowgli says, very proud to be a Wycombe fan. Met some Portsmouth fans on the way down to Portsmouth last night; friendly bunch. Portsmouth did well and will be in the draw with us along with Exeter. And just seen Oxford put Swansea out. What a weekend for L2 The Villa fans behaviour was a disgrace. I was down by the tunnel with daughter and grandson when they let rip at the players and manager. We moved away because of the foul language and aggression. Felt really sorry for the Villa players and manager who had to be locked in for their on security as angry fans surrounded their coach. Absolutely disgraceful. Will have some photos if anyone is interested
I'd guess you don't let the grandkids read your posts on here then Ron (v Shrimps - 2nd Jan). To be fair if you were a Villa fan at the moment I'd doubt you would be very polite either. That's a club heading where we are if ever there was one.
I guess you read them before I toned them down. The language they used was far worse. Actually I have since discovered that, as with any fan base, it was not representative of Villa fans in general. Some nice comments from some fans. I think their main problem is with the ownership (ring any bells?), and that spills over onto the pitch. It was a few people who were throwing abuse at the team and manager and that was uncalled for. For the first half Villa were playing good football and I was worried we might be in for a thrashing. They just couldn't match the grit of our lads in the second half and at times in that second half we actually outplayed them. A tremendous effort by the Blues. I hope they can produce the same in the replay.
What a great resut and day it was, proud to be a wycombe fan! As for the villa fans, i can understand thier frustrations but it hardly helps thier clubs reputation acting like that! the ones abusing the players walking onto the coach need to take a look at themselves above anything else. Having said that you can tell the effort isnt there with the players, and some of the management decisions by both garde and the owners are baffling (taking off gil warrented "you dont know what youre doing", as i thought he looked thier most dangerous player!)
