Pundits qoute that 40 points is the figure teams should achieve to be safe. However personally, I believe that 35 will be the benchmark this term.If that is the case 6 more wins will mean a lot more dosh/wonga/folding in the pot. What is your prediction for safety points wise?
Looking for points to be safe is the wrong attitude at this point. We have proven we deserve to be here and can hold our own with the best in the league. We should be driving to accumulate points and reach a Europa spot; that's just 4 points from where we are now. Not that I find Europa that attractive - a lot of extra work for not a lot of glamour - but that league position is within our grasp this season. As a minimum our club target should be at or better than last season's total. In other words stop looking down and start looking up.
Keep driving on , to settle at remaining tin the PL would be a disservice and show a lack of ambition ,especially to the new signings .I'm not saying I wouldn't be happy a finishing 17th but I believe the squad is better than that
YJ abso agree, but with the tremendous amount of prize monet (just for Joey )on offer , I believe it's at least 60 Million just for staying up, once we have that safe yes by all means push on as far as we can go!
I think we'll be around the 50 point mark. Not sure where that would put us in the table other than nowhere near the relegation zone. I wouldn't expect to finish any higher than 8th though - and 10th being more realistic. Not in any particular order, I would expect these teams to be above us : Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton. That's 6 teams who I think would finish above us. Will WBA fall away at some point ? Will Liverpool come good ?
I think that we've got to have an initial target. It will keep everyone focused and that is essential with the amount of money at stake. He might not publicly admit it, but I bet Laudrup has set his sights on safety as his top priority, not least because he knows he will have a decent transfer kitty to go out and strengthen us further for next season. After his previous experiences, I would guess that he is salivating at the thought. Also, I don't think he wants a debut relegation from the Premier League on his CV. Once safety has been achieved the pressure will be off, the squad can relax, play their football without fear and go for the next target, which would be to beat last season's performance. Just how high we can finish is anyone's guess, a total lottery. But I believe we should be looking to get to 40 points as soon as possible and regard that as a minimum. If we fall short we still might stay up if other teams fare badly. Don't want to risk that, though. Some teams below us are already starting to improve. Certainly that includes Southampton and Norwich whilst I can see Harry motivating QPR on a run that could see them get out of trouble. Lambert's ideas are beginning to take shape at Villa, so we should take nothing for granted and treat each game as a cup final until we are safe. Other teams will be doing just that.
you split the games in quarters and you aim for 10 points per quarter and some you get less and some you get more but each team gauge how they are doing and what they need to do to improve or get certain players after each quarter. at times when you cant get players you bring on players like we did with young Ben Davies and come January sir mike will have worked out where we will need strengthening or even cover. This is why all clubs provisionally aim for the 40 point mark. This season the way its going may end up around the 35pt mark but you must go for the 40+ mark in case the bottom teams go on a good run and you may have to get 42 or 43 pts to be safe.. managers never look any further than the current quarter they are in....
Laudrup himself in his recent pre match interviews has spoken about the 40 point bench mark and sees that as his initial points aim but I'm sure he'll have a higher points total in mind particularly as there is more money for clubs the higher you finish.
I expect to get 48-52 points this season. Probably 38 will be required to stay up as usual. I don't feel daunted by going to Arsenal this season - we are very capable of coming home with a point.
If we beat WBA I think it will give us the confidence to go to Arsenal and give them a good game. They are no great shakes right now and I agree that a point, or even more, is there for us.
I fancy us getting some points against Arsenal. There very hot and cold. A win tomorrow night and a draw against Arsenal. But nothing would surprise me that it will be a reverse and it will be a draw tomorrow and a win on Saturday.
While I agree that the Europa League is a waste of time (we would suffer as our squad is not big enough), it would on the other hand allow Swansea to attract 'better quality' players than we currently have the chance with the opportunity to play in Europe not to mention raise the profile of Swnasea on the European stage.
Nothing better than travelling to a foreign country and watching the swans compete with the best but if we do manage to get there then we will have to increase the squad slightly and that should be no problem with the money the club will have earned getting a European spot...Love to book my flight next season....
I have no idea how many points we will get, but first priority has to be to try and reach 40pts, i actually think the reverse from others ,i think over 40pts will be needed to stay up this season. Looking at the way everyone is beating eachother and the big clubs are dropping points against so called lower end teams like ourselves i see alot of points for everybody. As Ivor says, southampton,Norwich and others are improving, alot of these clubs have financial clout that we can only dream about and if their owners think they are in with a chance of maintaing prem status you can garentee they will buy players and strengthen in January. We are as vulnerable as the next team, we need to be picking up points and at least not letting our rivals take any from us when we play, a win tomorrow will be fantastic . Watching the Sunderland v QPR game, looks like Sunderland could be in the mix this season too, not looking totally convincing, makes our game against them 2 pts dropped !!
You need at least 15 points for reaching a third of the way through, in my view! gives you a realistic 40+ points come end of season, we are on target with 17 points, and if we can repeat that for 2/3 and 3/3 then we will have accumulated 51 points, which is what I wanted last season, but we fell short slightly! Anyway we are doing fine, but we cannot drop our intensity, and let's hope we have the athletic legs for the final third, as the business end is where we really need to gather some pace, not like last season when we thought we were home and dry, with games still to go!........... PS: Actually I wanted 54 points last season, but we drifted at the end, Rodgers fault with his subs, experimenting etc!
