Another step towards EU leagues. At this rate, international and European football will require competing clubs to have 40+ players first team players This cup of nations bollocks is another kick in the balls to club football Is it like pouring water into milk.. re quality of football? The quality at International level has really fallen, mostly due to the best playing right up to before the summer. More and more and more games with less and less good football overall. Bit like Hollywood, we used to have 5 or 6 crackers a year, now we get 500 **** movies a year
Why do this?? They already scrapped the Cup Winners' Cup because there were too many. How about they just increase the monetary rewards for competing in the Europa League, so that it isn't such a joke. Also, while they are at it, they should scrap international football altogether, because honestly, who gives a ****?
I always felt the FA Cup winners should get a place in the Champions League, it would protect the tradition of this trophy and make Premier clubs take it more seriously in the early stages ie round 3. Id rather that than some 4th placed losers or whatever the criteria is these days, and imagine the boost it would give to someone like a Championship club if they were to win it....do a Sunderland (Bob Stokoe) maybe
It's a bit of a **** idea and I can't see how it would work, but it could be vaguely useful for a club like Southampton or Everton. They've both got strong youth setups and could take advantage of the extra fixtures to test out some of their more promising prospects. Most sides can't handle the extra games and travel of the Europa League though, so I can't see why they'd bother with this. Look at Burnley's season so far. It's wrecked their start completely.
How about actually cutting out the early qualifiers. 32 teams straight to the group stages in three competitions CL,EL and EL2. That would give 10 more teams direct entry to the group stages but no second chances for teans finishing third in the group to drop to EL Succesful teams will not see any difference in match numbers but smaller and less successful teams will not have their squads stretched and suffer in their national leagues. An extra 16 teams would get a guaranteed 6 group games and those that qualify from the EL will have the same number of k/o matches as they currently have in the CL, again helping them in their national leagues. Also qualifiers would not be taking place before the first cricket test has started. Knowing how the first half of the season is structured will help teams with transfer strategy. Knowing that you have qualified for one of the leagues may persuade a player to sign and help clubs with smaller finances not to overstretched their budgets. I think however that the masters of confusion at UEFA will make it even imore complicated than it already is.
Agree with this. Always liked Europa, been annoyed at Spurs many times in the past where we’ve chosen to just basically forfeit it to focus on trying to finish top four. But if financial rewards were improved, it’ll add more incentive for clubs to go for it, especially as Champions League football is guaranteed with it as well.
If they tie it around removing CL dropouts from the CL and make it into 3 seperate competitions I think it could be decent. Well only if England gets some places obviously.
