List things that are not on the curriculum but need to be taught to our youngsters, that would be useful through out their lives and benefit society So for example, how to make a decent cuppa
Sadly that's in short supply In the teachers these days. All that "those he can, teach" nonsense has ruined the profession overall
1) The importance of money management - Teach them about credit ratings and the importance of saving money. Show them the downside to life and what can happen when people can't manage money and don't pay bills. 2) Drug awareness - Tell them about the main drugs they'll find on the streets. Show them what the drugs look like, let them hold and touch the drug. Let them know the effects and what sort of situations the drug would normally be took.
Is it? I'll have to speak with my daughter about that. I've taught her about the benefits of cannabis for a long time. I've taught her all about her endocannabinoid system and the receptors within our bodies. When I went to Jamaica a few weeks back, she seen me smoking it for the first time. No big deal, imo. It should be normalised in this day and age, and viewed no differently from somebody having a can of lager in the presence of their child.
Yeah mate. It started when I was working in community safety. We piloted it and it became mainstream. Unless they stopped it Basically our drugs and alcohol liaison officer had a briefcase thing which when opened had replicas of every drug, what it looked like, smelt like etc. The session went through what to avoid and how to respond or what to do of you had taken something. The problem with these things is delivery and in some cases they made it sound like its OK to take it if you're careful, but reality isn't that simple. But as I said on another thread good ideas go bad for various reasons. So we piloted needle exchange to get used needles off the street. Initially they were in strategic places with the workers protected and it was "exchange". Then the chemists got involved and got govt funding so the little old lady without training had to stand i n front of a 6ft plus heroine addict going mad as he just wanted needles. Chemists owners made a fortune but the minimum wage staff were not trained and too scared. So needles increased as now you could chuck it knowing you can get another for free
We had regular visits from plod for a while doing just that. They used to light resin (it seemed fake to me) in the room so you got an idea of the smell, without realising most were already well familiar. People were almost crushed in the rush to get a lung full. It stopped after a while, I think because plod were losing too much stock.
Come early summer time we’d play until we got chucked out of the park or somebody’s Dad turned up to call time. Sometimes we’d play longer, after the park had closed - just had to climb over the fence to get out.
Our local park keeper bent a couple of bars in one spot and told us to leave via that after he locked up, so as we didn't hurt ourselves on the spiked fence climbing out Key word "our". We didn't wreck it and would physically beat anyone wrecking the equipment etc because it was our park
We used to hide from the parky under the pond bridge until he told us there was a dead lady in the pond who used to come out and snatch kids at night. ****.
